Pro Basketball News - The voice of pro basketball

Quote:
And then there‘s the issue of Dumars‘ draft picks. In the most talent-heavy draft of the decade (2003), Dumars selected Darko Milicic with the No. 2 overall pick -- ahead of the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Three years earlier, he took Mateen Cleaves at No. 14. One year after that, he went with Rodney White at No. 9.

Bust, bust and double bust.

Dumars has indeed accepted part of the blame for the Pistons’ failure to win another title. He deserves credit for that. He has acknowledged that the roster may not have enough talent to get past the Bostons and Clevelands of the East, and promised more changes are on the way.

“There are no sacred cows here,“ he said. “I have no interest in completely ripping the team down, but will I look to make significant change? Yeah, you're damn right I will."

A good place to start would be to hire a coach and stick with him for once.
I say if LB would've kept his mouth shut about all the other opportunities, he'd still be here.

Pistons' next coach? Michael Curry has diligent reputation
Curry played in the league for 11 seasons despite being undrafted out of Georgia Southern. He made his mark not with extraordinary talent but with hard work and basketball smarts, and he demanded the same from his more-talented teammates. Although he was 6-feet-5, small for a forward, he managed to gain playing time by doing the little things teams need to win. He served as a leader in that sense, despite not being a leading scorer.

One can only assume that he will bring the same characteristics -- a commitment to defense, hard work and winning -- to a head coaching role. That's one thing Dumars is seeking. He had a brilliant X's and O's coach in Saunders, and that didn't produce a championship. He's ready to try something different, something more visceral.

Bobcats should pursue Wallace
I have an idea, and on the surface it will seem a bit reckless, but hear me out:

The Bobcats should consider trading for Detroit Pistons big man Rasheed Wallace.

Pistons basketball operations chief Joe Dumars made it clear Tuesday, after firing coach Flip Saunders, that he's open to breaking up his team's core to freshen the roster. Wallace, in the late stages of his NBA career, would be a logical piece to move.

Detroit is a hockey, baseball, basketball town

Suns hire Pistons assistant as head coach
Porter was schedule to interview Monday for the Detroit job but informed the Pistons today that he would take the Suns' job. Porter is seen as a guy who can command the respect of veterans a past competitor who made two All-Star Games and two NBA Finals but knows what it is like to be a head coach too.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith: Pistons have been cocky
How good is Rodney Stuckey? He's very, very good. He's very talented. He showed it to you his rookie year. Considering he showed so much of his game in his rookie campaign, imagine what he's going to be like once he gets some experience under his belt. Joe D. considers him the future. A guy like Lindsey Hunter is going to be kept around to tutor this young man, but he's got a lot of potential.

ESPN - Anthony's representatives, Nuggets' brass to address trade rumors
Denver denied that it was looking to trade Anthony, but the rumors have persisted. Detroit recently offered Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince for Anthony, but the Nuggets weren't interested. Denver countered with an offer of Allen Iverson or a package built around Marcus Camby, but the Pistons are only interested in Anthony.
ESPN - Carmelo's agent assured forward will not be traded
The agent for Carmelo Anthony says the Denver Nuggets have told him they will not trade the two-time All-Star forward this summer.

"He's not going to be moved," Calvin Andrews said in a telephone interview Sunday. "It's not happening. We've been given assurances from the owner on down."
