RealGM: Two Plus The Foul - 30 Teams, 30 Days: Detroit Draft Preview

Quote:
Who’s Gone Number 29 Recently?

Over the past five years, the 29th pick has not panned out as well as anticipated. Since Josh Howard was stolen in 2003, there have been some very marginal players that have spent more time in street clothes than they have on the floor – and not because of injuries.

Quote:
Given that stalemate, it's possible that Davis, who wants to stay in the Bay Area but was disappointed with the lowball offers from the Warriors, will ask to be dealt. And the team source said that the Detroit Pistons, rebuffed initially in their attempt to pry forward Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets, are now looking at Davis as a potential target.

Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations, gave notice after losing the Eastern Conference finals that no one on his veteran-laden team would be safe, and the source said Detroit is willing to divest itself of longtime stars Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups.
Wallace, like Davis an unrestricted free agent after '08-09, would give the Warriors their best true power forward since Chris Webber's first stint in 1993-94 and has 3-point range that coach Don Nelson would love.

Re: Articles worth mentioning II

Do Pistons actually need a point guard with a history of chronic injuries that loves to take ill-advised shots? I don't know if it really does make sense to bring in Davis.

Not at all. Why is Chauncey expendable? Because Stuckey is backing him up. All B Diddy would do is eat more of Stuckey's minutes. That CB and Sheed for Baron and Harrington trade makes us about the same at PG and worse up front.

Pistons' Dumars won't change just for change's sake
Quote:
While his fan base rants and raves, while some of his competitors pull off minor coups and others dish out oversized contracts to underwhelming talent, Joe Dumars waits.

He has poked around. He has made some offers. He has explored some possible deals. But mostly he has stepped back from the fray. He knows when to hold them.

Dumars, the Pistons' president, isn't trying to see how many introductory news conferences he can hold in July and August. He isn't trying to make headlines or appease knee-jerking fans by overpaying for a tier-two free agent. His mission is to improve the team, not change some of the names on the uniforms.

Houstonist: McGrady to Pistons not so likely?

Quote:
Within days of the published reports, the Pistons went public by downplaying the rumors and stating that the Pistons were not “remotely” close to a deal for McGrady and that the Rockets were simply one of many teams to whom the franchise has spoken with about potential swaps.
However, with as much smoke that has surrounded this story in the last seven days, one is forced to wonder if somewhere there might exist a fire of sorts.
