Pistons Jersey in the NBA Hall of Fame

Someone from Oakland told me Piston's jersey in the NBA Hall of Fame is from Lorenzo Romar. I didn't even realize he played other than for Golden State and the Bucks for a few years averaging under 6 points per game. I searched and found that Romar did play in 5 Piston games but they must have been incredible if the Pistons selected him to reside along side the other NBA franchises with their All Time Greats to represent THE DETROIT PISTONS.

any comment on why he represents the team and the community in the NBA HALL OF FAME ?

What he told you is most likely incorrect.

Romar is however, one of the better college basketball coaches and recruiters in the country.

Re: Pistons Jersey in the NBA Hall of Fame

Budda,
I called my bud again and he saw it with his own peeps. Romar reps the PISTONs in the NBA Hall of Fame. He laughed hard becasue he's been a Warrior fan for years and all the teams have thier jersey's displayed in one part of the Hall. He said all the teams have some of thier all time greats names/number jerseys displayed but next to Barkley's jersey is the PISTON jersey with Romar's name and number.

If the Piston management is so clueless as to have a player who played with the Warriors for 90% of his career and only <1% of his career as a Piston represent them, well, as the other post wrote, "that's just dumb".

As far as being a coach, the Washington Huskies won only one one road game last year - if that's the bar for being a great college coach, it's not set very high.

I am not sure "one of the better" translates into great.

I emailed the HOF for an explanation of why Romar's jersey is representing the Pistons in the HOF

Quote:
Romar is credited for turning around the sagging fortunes of the University of Washington basketball program and generating new enthusiasm for the program. In 2004, Washington qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years. In 2005, Washington won the Pac-10 Tournament and earned a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies made their way to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1998 but were ousted by Louisville 93-79. In 2006, Washington earned a second consecutive appearance to the Sweet Sixteen before losing in overtime to Connecticut 98-92.

Romar is known by his fellow coaches as one of the top basketball recruiters in the country. He played an instrumental role for the success of the mid-1990s UCLA team as an assistant, attracting top players to the program. Now at Washington, he has pulled in nationally ranked classes and looks to place the Huskies among the top programs in the Pac-10.

There is no NBA Hall of Fame. And the Basketball Hall of Fame is in Springfield, Massachusetts, not Oakland. How is that your buddy has seen it twice recently if he is from Oakland? Romar is in the California Community College Hall of Fame though.

Technically you are correct.

It is either referred to as the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame or sometimes people leave off Naismith name and just refer to it as the Basketball Hall of Fame.

It is all inclusive including Non NBA players, coaches etc.

This is the email I received back from the NHOF regarding Romar's Jersey representing the Pistons.

Quote:
I am not sure who told you that Lorenzo Romar was part of the exhibits here at the Naismith Hall of Fame. We do have some personal items of Romar but none on display.

The jerseys we currently have on exhibit off the top of my head are Joe Dumars, George Yardley, and Isiah Thomas. In addition, we have some warm-ups of George Yardley’s on display and of course the commemorative balls in some areas.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Re: Pistons Jersey in the NBA Hall of Fame

side note: if any of you get a chance to go to the Basketball Hall of Fame, it's worth the price of admission. I've been twice and I loved it. Lots of good stuff in there. There is some good Zollner Pistons stuff in there.
