The Los Angeles Lakers remain in need of a big man since the injury to center Andrew Bynum. However, the Los Angeles Times reported the team is closer to a deal with DJ Mbenga than Chris Webber.
DJ Mbenga, a 7-footer who was cut last week by Golden State. Mbenga, who attended Thursday's game, averaged 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds for the Warriors in 16 games.
Webber's agent, Aaron Goodwin said. "The Lakers know of his interest, but we won't push to make it happen." Denver, Miami and Detroit are also believed to be interested in Webber, who could decide which team to join this weekend.

DJ Mbenga rather than Webber. Maybe because Webber wants to play and not sit after Bynum returns.

Here's the thing. Does he really think that he has a chance to win the title in LA? Probably not. So, is he doing this for the $ or the chance to win?

I still think he's using other teams to try to increase his value and will ultimately be coming to Detroit. We need 1 more player who is playoff ready.

Initially I wasn't down with this, but now I say go for it. If they won't play anyone else as a consistent 4th big, then bring him on. Keep everyones minutes low.

I was watching the Spurs v Cavs last night and was thinking, 'How many minutes per game would Flip play Robert Horry if he had him?' 30? 35?

Or maybe it's just an assessment of the players' talent.

Great post. I want to see Webber back if Flip doesn't want to play Amir.

At this point in their careers, better Brezec than Webber.

Re: Webber coming back soon, but to what team?

Why would getting Webber this time around be any different than last time? Last year he did really well in the regular season and disappeared in the playoffs. We have enough Houdinis on our team as it is. If something has changed, I'm not privy to it.

Because he'd be a bench player. The guy's he'll be guarding won't be as good.
