Terry Foster blog - time to start Amir

I love the idea of Antonio McDyess coming off the bench for the Pistons. He plays better off the bench, is more comfortable coming off the bench and can be a major spark against opponent's second units. That is why the Pistons should entertain the idea of inserting Amir Johnson in the starting line up.
He is ready. The last nine games he has averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, blocked 16 shots and shot 64 percent from the floor. He is a guy who makes things happen whenever he is on the floor. Is he a top five player for the Pistons? Probably not. However, McDyess is a guy who can come off the bench and also finish games. To me it is more important for a guy like this to finish than start.
Terry joins some of us here with his opinion of Dyess coming off the bench.

Re: Terry Foster blog - time to start Amir

it ain't broke so why fix it?? mcdyess has been a a starter and a bench player in this league. he can do both. he's been rebounding like mcdyess of old lately. i don' t see what adding mcdyess to the bench unit adds.

as long as amir continues to get playing time the rotation is fine with me.

Re: Terry Foster blog - time to start Amir

Sounds good, but we've all seen what happens to McDyess' effectiveness when he doesn't have a PG on the floor that can get him the ball. (ie. After Arroyo got traded)
Not bashing Stuckey, but I just think Dyess is better off playing with the starters.

I also like Amir's infusion of energy off the bench. He is likely to get lost in the mix if he plays with the starters. ie. 5th option.

Here's the problem, Amir has earned the right on the court, but we're still a team that insists on paying your dues. Blue collar seniority system.

Re: Terry Foster blog - time to start Amir

Foster is my CT alumni, but here is point-countrepoint:

1. POINT- off the bench: Dyess working with Max and Stuckey IN A PERFECT rotation would be priceless. But Flip is no LB, so we cant trust his rotations.

b. Dyess would still get his minutes, bench or not. But Greg anthony made a good point on ESPN 2nite in reference to Shaq. If we give Dyess just 24 KNOWN minutes, he's gonna get 10 and 8 regardless.

c. Its about the 4th qtr not the 1st qtr.

2. COUNTERPOINT - as a starter: the knees, the knees, the knees. LB always considered starting him, because he would have warm knees. But until we "James Edwards" Dyess by going to him as the 1st qtr flow guy, does starting him really matter?

b. AJ is a game changer. Do we want him going against the opponents BEST forward , maybe getting in foul trouble? Or coming off the bench in the 2nd to cause havoc with the Zoo crew?

thats all....

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
