Well look, he already told you! He deals with the goddamn media so the players don't have to! He has people skills! He is good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

Or something like that. OFFICE SPACE QUOTE

He can do what Arnie does for conditioning. Arnie assists the process. But ultimately, it's the player in the weight room, getting enough rest, improving their measurables, watching their diet. Contrary to popular belief, his poultices and incantations are not extraordinary.

Flip can get the team to practice. He can organize the staff of assistants. He can set schedules, and manage lineups. But he doesn't make shots, or box out. He's not the one who sees the floor and decides to make a pass. It's not his decision to take a charge or contest a jumpshot.

There are limits on his effect. In many regards, he's second to the players themselves.

I don't think Flip is a good strategist. Based on how the team has revolted on him twice already, I don't think he is a particularly good leader. I think few of his defenders would be willing to say he is a better coach than LB, even without the title.

But he's clearly not the reason why Cleveland wins 4 straight. Or Miami humiliates a team that barely scrapes by Cleveland in 7.

If I thought Flip could improve Lindsey's shooting, or Mo Evans defense, if he could make Jarvis Hayes a more consistent scorer, or Jason Maxiell taller, Tayshaun quicker, then maybe I would expect so much more from him.

But to be honest, those things are the GM's problem.

I know how to make JMax taller. Put in Amir.

Improve Lindsey's shooting by making him wear a blindfold.

Cream and clear and under control. Or more like Prozac?

I don't think anyone's disputing this, even those who think coaches lose games.
