Cheikh Samb called up by Pistons

My question is... WHY?????

Flip is already having a hard enough time finding minutes for anyone outside of the starting 5. Why add another player to the mix?

Is it simply a case of wanting to get him some exposure to the NBA playoffs?

IMO, he'd be better served developing down in the D-League than sitting in a suit in the front row in the NBA.

Quote:
“I felt like he was a big loss for us,” Ants coach Jaren Jackson said. “He was developing at a nice pace, even though he had his moments when he struggled inside, but he was trying to play strong. I was excited about the way we he left as far as his play in his last two games. I hope things work out for him in Detroit.”
Thoughts?

There will probably be some meaningless games, as well as some nice garbage time, coming up over the remainder of the season. Why not let Samb get some real NBA minutes?

Also, if he is going to be a part of the Pistons future, it will be nice for him to get more acclimated with the current roster, both on and off the court.

I don't see him getting any minutes either let alone dressing. Flip indicated thT Hunter was going to drees this weeken too, so who joins Samb and Fabio sports jackets??Dixon or Theo?

I agree. Remember those last 4-5 games feature a lot of full-time garbage minutes since we lock up our seeding relatively early. That is where AJ had that 18 point burst against the Bucks last year. Still curious though.

Even if he's not dressed for games doesn't mean he won't be practicing his ass off against real NBA talent - Sheed, Dyess, Rattler, AJ, Max...etc. It's good for him regardless. Not to mention the big man coaches are better. It's good for him even if he doesn't play in a real game -- which he probably will at some point anyway.

Re: Cheikh Samb called up by Pistons

Another quote from Flip where he contradicts himself but at least the first part made sense.

Quote:
"That league is so tough for big guys," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "It's a guard-oriented league where guards get the ball and want to shoot all the time. So big guys don't get a lot of touches."
<----SHOULD HAVE STOPPED TALKING HERE---->
Quote:
"But I think it's been good for him to get playing time, to get on the court. And as far as the things he can do, like shot-blocking and rebounding, I think he's done pretty well down there."

Re: Cheikh Samb called up by Pistons

I don't see much of a contradiction there. By "tough for big guys," it's pretty clear that he just meant "it's tough for big guys to develop offensively because they don't get touches."

...which is why it was so good for him to be down there not getting touches and not developing offensively?
