Players only meeting

Far more interesting was the players-only meeting the Pistons had prior to walking on to the court. Players were relatively mum on the meeting's specifics, but there were two general themes that seemed to be points of discussion.

1) Conditioning -- lately, the Pistons have been bothered by a few nagging injuries, in part because the players don't necessarily follow through as well as they should on the pre-game and shoot-around conditioning drills led by Kander. There was a noticeable improvement in their focus during those drills this morning, which may very well be tied into the team meeting.
2) Playoff preparation -- A couple different players mentioned how it's time for them to start to not just think about the playoffs, but start developing the kind of habits needed to ensure they don't suffer yet another early playoff exit.
Isn't it interesting how they have to remind themselves of things that they should be doing anyway? I guess that complacency is out there somewhere. Lets see if there is any difference in the things they do on the court and the consistent intensity within the games.

That's great. Leadership from within. Recognizing slippage. Taking steps to mitigate it. Shutting up about it.

Re: Players only meeting

Agree, it's nice to know...

#1 - they want to win it all

#2 - they realize it's not their inalienable right

Remains to be seen how much this impacts their play, but the Suns game was a turn in the right direction.

to little to late last year.... but to call it now, makes me hopeful that they understand what the challenge is and that there up for it.... also setting the tone now is more needed, we have alot of young "vital" parts to the team this year that are in for something new in a few weeks and there is no way they can "switch" it on, even if the veterns think they can they can't this year.
