van gundy... not that i think he's very good at announcing or coaching... so i take it with a gain of salt keeps praising flips coaching and saying he's an under rated coach. I know we all have views that tend to be more negative then positive about him as a coach, but how do the "experts" outside of detroit really view him?

Has a coach ever got a tech for twitching?

Remember, this thread wasn't started by Flip Saunders, so he's not really bragging about what a great game he coached.

By the way, what was the biggest win of Flip Saunders' coaching career? Does last night qualify?

His 64th victory in the 05/06 regular season?

What about that offensive foul on the Sheed screen last night? The one where it looked like Allen grabbed Sheed's leg and then threw himself backwards pulling them both down. I was thinking then that would be a good time for a coach to take a tech.

The look on Sheed's face was priceless though.

I think so. It was right up there with THE most exciting and best Pistons games I have ever seen. It was that good!

That was obviously a bad call, but I would argue that those aren't the type of calls to take a stand on. The ref obviously didn't see the hook and made a call based on players falling to the ground. After the game, the ref will review that call and realize he screwed up.

The calls that I would save my ammo for would be the ones that the refs make to take the path of least resistance. Sometimes with an aggressive home crowd, they will give toss up type calls to the home team because they know they won't have to face the crowd's wrath. In those cases, you need to make them think twice about it. Some refs would rather piss off an entire crowd than a Pat Riley. I don't think refs ever factor Flip Saunder's into their equation.

I guess my logic is that Sheed might be less likely to get uptight about a call like that if the coach stood up for him.

Of course, it's probably more likely true that Sheed would see Flip taking a tech for him as an embarrassment.

Re: Flip Saunders worked his magic again last night

I constantly lament the fact the coach isn't willing to stick up for his players, and in particular defend Sheed.

Larry did it, and I think it was incredibly underrated at the time.

Working the refs is something all great coaches can do, but I can't honestly say I have seen it from this guy. If you can believe that such "skills" could earn you one call (for or against) a game, that's gotta be worth a win or two in the playoffs with so many close games.

I agree with CJ. This might have been the most exciting Pistons game since 2005.

That was the play where Curry was going off. I knew I was getting mixed up. Watch Pop whenever Joey Crawford is doing a Spurs game. That is how you do it.

If Sheed were player/coach how many tech's could he get? He'd have to get more than 7. In all seriousness, they should try this to get around the rule.
