That is what I've heard as well, I'd prefer a reputable source though.

Re: Michael Curry to be the next Pistons coach

I haven't been listening to Joe's press conference, but Warthog posted that Joe said he wanted to talk to a few coaching candidates before making a decision (and that the decision would not take very long). So is it already a done deal with Curry, or is Stephen A. setting himself up to get "McCoskeyed"?

Lindsey says the team needs a strong coach that will not let them get away with things as much. Someone to hold their feet to the fire.

I'd rather see Laimbs there, but we'll have to wait for Joe to figure this one out.

Looks like Stephan A. Smith had this scoop correct. He made the Curry announcement 6 days before Dumars.

It seems like this decision was made a long time ago. In his public statements, Joe D. frequently (always?) acts the politician. It is a style that does not appeal to me very much in a GM. I realize that GM's have to hold back, and have to play things close to the vest, but Joe D. takes it too far. But maybe this is part of the Pistons front office culture, which seems to be very secretive under Bill D's reign, and Joe really has no choice.

I wish SA Smith's other prediction that the Pistons would beat the Celtics in 7 would have come true too.

Re: Michael Curry to be the next Pistons coach

What's interesting about the Curry selection is that Joe (and Bill D.) probably brought Curry in this past season as a contingency plan in the event we flamed out in the playoffs again. In other words, they must have been thinking about Curry (or perhaps Porter or Cowens) succeeding Flip if things did not work out this year. I don't recall who Porter, Curry and Cowens replaced as assistant coaches. But I presume bringing them in was not Flip's decision, and that he had to know that one or more were being groomed as his successor in the event the Pistons did not get past the ECF this year.

Very nice theory but this is based on assumption that "upper floor" actually didn't believe in head coach anymore. Then why to waste a year?
