Darrell Walker appointed as Pistons Asst Coach

Per Detroit news, Mr. Walker has been added as an Asst Coach.

This addition solidifies that the pistons will go back to the hard nosed defense that they once was known for.

I can see more man to man defense and less focus on zone with both Curry and Walker as catalysts in teaching that vaulted defensive style.

Even though we were #2 in defense, I think that our defensive and offensive rebounding percentages will improve. On the offensive end, I am really looking forward to a very uptempo style.

I like this. I saw Walker play in DC for a season or two and he came to play every night.

P.S. I don't dislike the zone, in fact, I think a careful use of it consistently during the season is a good thing. (Which Flip did not do last year.) It might even have made a difference during the playoffs. You just have to go to it from strength and not from weakness.

Another former head coach like Porter was, and Cowens is.

From what I remember of Walker. Do not know much about his as a coach. As a player he was a defensive combo guard I believe, one of the best defenders around.

Wonder if Curry is trying to address some of the defensive issues the backcourt has had. Dribble penetration and whatnot.

Pistons also added Harold Ellis to their staff.

Quote:
Ellis, 37, comes to Detroit after spending the past five seasons as a scout for the Atlanta Hawks as well as serving as the team's minor league coordinator.
A former Division II standout at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ellis spent three seasons as an NBA player (two with the Los Angeles Clippers and one with the Denver Nuggets), with a 5.8 points per game career average.

Wonder if he and Laimbeer will continue to be successful in the ladies league a few years while the men struggle for the next couple of seasons with Curry and some non-focused players?

With Darrell Walker, Harold Ellis, Pat Sulivan, and Dave Cowens as Curry's asistants, where does that leave Lindsey Hunter?

Does he continue to play as the back-up to Stuckey if Billups is dealt? If so we are in trouble...I have not heard any exit interviews abotu Hunter returning as a player , coah or scout??
