Dumars may beg somebody 24/7 but if begged refuses, it is not GM's fault.
If he can't sign them, he can't sign them, but i think the anger will be there if he doesn't make a realistic attempt. He has all the tools to do so.

Re: Pistons Targeting Posey?

No free pass for Joe under the premise that no one wanted to sign. There is no way to validate whether a deal/package was offered and how good it was. It usually comes in the form of after the fact reporting by Pistons shills.

He is the man in charge and if he sees opportunities to make the team better the it is his job to find a way to get it done. If not via FA, then through trade. I don't accept the premise that this team can't any better.

I certainly do not envision GM's job to be like brothel's visitor: how much this girl/boy costs? Nice, I'll take him/her.

In trades it takes two to reach into agreement, even drafting is not "soloing", as it has been already mentioned, many draftees had expressed their preferences before drafting and GM's were forced to take into considerations those.

I mean, there is not much of what GM has control over.

There is almost always a trade available among the 30 teams. Joe may not be able to get a Rasheed Wallace for a bag of chips if that is his goal. Gotta give up value to receive it.

They probably offered the full MLE to both and said it goes to who signs first.

IMO Maggette is overratted and constantly injured. I would rather have Posey of the two, but my concern is our bigs is what hurt us last year. If We gave our backup SF our full MLE what do we do to improve our weakest area?

Have you seen MLE worthy bigs in FA market? Hint: Diop is not one of those...

I don't think Diop is worth the full, but that is probably what it will take to get him. I just think that having the flexibility under the lux tax in order to make a big trade is fairly important at this point.

I don't like Posey or his ridiculous mouthpiece. I would rather have Pietrius who is essentially a younger Posey with a mean streak and a wicked right hand.

I'd argue that SF was our weakest area. The bigs didn't really hurt us themselves. It was having to be constantly out of position to have to cover for all the penetration our perimeters were giving up that killed us. Amir will helps with his ability to erase some mistakes, and quickness to recover, but our perimeter D needs to get MUCH better, and Tay has been getting killed and overplayed. With the glut of good SF's we face (LBJ,PP,HT, etc), improvement at that position is needed.

Maggette can slash and can get to the line ...umm, he probably costs too much....but I wouldn't mind him as the nice six man.
