Simply put, when the C's and Heat picked Posey up nobody knew he would contibute as well as he did to the SYSTEM, he was an unexpected - pleasant surprise. Wow. Do you watch the NBA? Without blinders on? Posey is nowhere near an overpriced/overhyped MLE BUST. He was a solid player when he was with the Nuggets, Rockets and Grizzlies. He was a key contributor for Miami in their run to the Championship in 2006 and therefore I think it's safe to say that Ainge knew exactly what he was getting when he signed Posey. He is not some "scrub" who happened to sneak up on the league. He is a solid player who brings very important skills to the table. Skills that are need by a role player to win a championship like defense, intensity, EFFORT, hustle, focus (seems to ALWAYS hit that wide open 3), etc. These used to be staples of the Detroit Pistons! We need to clean house and bring in players who are going to represent Deeeetroit Baaaasketballll!!!!!!!

If you need to see for yourself from a numbers standpoint how consistent Posey has been (the past few years have been no fluke) go ahead and checkout his stats. He's provided the same to every team he's played for.

NBA.com : James Posey Career Stats Page

FYI, the MLE is only worth 6 million if I'm correct. That would make the max he would get a 4 year 24 million contract. I think we could get him for 4.5 to 5 million a year though which would make it a 3 or 4 year 13.5 to 20 million deal. If he provides to the Pistons what he has provided to EVERY team he's played for during his ENTIRE career, it will be well worth the price IMO.

On top of that, landing him would be a huge blow to the Celtics bench.
Amen! IMO, if we are able to sign Posey we may not need a trade that completely guts this team. Maybe trade one of our starters for equal value to mix things up and keep the team mostly intact.

I hear you on this and I can go either way. This would have been a GREAT signing last year, but now it kind of points to Joe and the Pistons being a step behind instaed of a step ahead. I could definitely see him not getting the same open look/3's here playing with the stumbling triplets that he got from Pierce/Rondo/Allen or Wade and co. (aka as players who can dribble without falling over.)

On the other hand, he hasn't played a ton of minutes over his career and at worst would upgrade their D and rebounding. He would also give a real annoying presence/flopper that, unfortunately, seems to be necessary these days in the L. He could be a galvanizing force on D that allows everything else to fall back into place.

How many teams can offer him more than the MLE? The tail end of the deal should make him trade fodder. I admit I do not care what the 2012 team looks like. Trent Plaisted should be more than enough to make up for any weakness by then.

Pietrius while gifted is brain dead sometimes. Jones has 1 and done written all over him.

Cosigned.

Or Magette.

Hmmm, perhaps he is happy with just two rings. For him to bolt and win one with another team would be pretty cool.

We all have to feed our families. I know I would be in trouble with just a MLE contract for one or two years!!

In two years everyone will look back on this summer and be glad Joe didnt sign him.
I doubt we will be glad we didn't sign him, he is a very good player (I have thought highly of him for a few years and always wondered why he struggled to get a decent contract) but I will be glad we didn't throw him the max contract we can offer. If Joe thinks as highly of this Sharpe guy as he says he does it doesn't make a lot of sense to sign another SF when we having glaring needs at center.

Curry is gonna go with a defense we played previously. More "man to man" that isn't really man to man because of the help defense . We need that big shot blocker/defender in the middle to prevent all of the easy shots. IMO perimeter D is overrated because perimeter shooting is so hit and miss, the key is stopping those easy shots (layups,etc.).

Re: Pistons Targeting Posey?

Ken Holland vs. Joe D, Wings just signed Marian Hossa after winning the Cup. Shows that atleast one Detroit team is serious about winning and is always on the look out to improve themselves.
