Has anyone else heard about NBA's new policy on technicals - about getting automatic suspensions every other technical after the 15th one ?

If this is true, I am pretty sure Rasheed will be in trouble at some point this season, and Joe needs to get him to stop getting the stupid one's at the very least (I think he's got at least one prior to the one today for taunting)...

Sheed has 5 technicals in the first 17 games. That puts him on pace for 25 technicals on the season. That would give him 5 one-game suspensions according to the new rules. This has to be a concern, especially if he misses important games down the stretch. I'm not sure if this rule carries into the playoffs.

You gotta think that Sheed knows about this or is angling for some time off late in the season.

As big of an act he puts on, Sheed is no fool. He knows exactly what he is doing on 90% of his techs.

Once Sheed gets close to 15, maybe CB will take-up the cause of crafty on-floor negotiating with the officials. I can't really see Tay, Ben, or Rip doing it.


chipi...Nice find. I sure wasn't aware of the rule. It was certainly put in place in Sheed's honor...henceforth it should be referred to as the "Roscoe Rule"

The T's start over in the playoffs and are more lenient before getting suspended.

I don't see this rule having any bite. The player association is going to be all over the league as soon as someone is suspended because of it. With the salaries that these guy's make a one game suspension is big bucks and to suspend someone after everyother suspension is rediculious. For example if Sheed gets to 25 techs and he sits out 5 games you can imagine the lost salary would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Like someone said Sheed is no fool and he likes collecting his checks. I remember him getting fined 10K for opening his mouth about the refs and he was silent the rest of the year because he did not want to cough up no more loot.

To me the new rule is stupid. Why doesn't Stern and his gonzo crew just increase the fine of $150 bucks per technical. Make it $2000 a technical and then after 15 technicals the amount increases by $2000. So for the 16 technical is $4000 the 17th is $6000 and so on. This makes more sense since Stern is trying to clean up the image of the league.

You can't get any more bite than game suspensions. I don't think the Players Association will fight any suspensions. This rule only affects 2 or 3 bozos in the entire league. It just so happens that one of those bozos (Sheed) is on the Pistons.

Anyone know if the rule applies to coaches also?
