Options left from the big trade

Detroit needs a big and a slasher. Who is left is important. Depending on his knee, this fellow has the tools and fits JD comfort level when dealing with the team over-haul.

Nenad Krstic

Assets:
  • Big (7-0, 260)
  • Young (24)
  • Offensive game (proven)
  • Runs the floor
  • Plays within the scope of his game (typical European)
  • Brings honesty in the paint area
  • Can be a starter or heavy-playing backup
  • NJ is ready to deal via trade
  • Cost: 1.9 million and is a steal
  • Prevents JD from the usual panic mode that got him into trouble via Naz, et. al.
Downside:
  • Knee (ACL), but Detroit has never been shy because of Arnie and look at Dyess
  • Semi-soft (similar to Gasol)
  • NJ will demand equal quality and offers no more than a 2 year commitment

On the other hand, NJ is in salary dump mode getting ready for the LBJ sweepstakes. Perhaps a more skilled offensive player around the basket is better than Theo's occasional shot block?

On the third hand, Theo did out-Sprocket Point Krstic on a equal minutes basis last season. Their production efficiency was equal.

I don't know if there is anyone on our current roster I'd give up for the enigma of Nenad Krstic.

If we can have him for one of our 2nd round picks then he's worth the gamble. Big man wanting to prove he belongs after showing signs of game, knee injury, questions and doubters -- right up Joe's alley.

Nenad for a 2nd round pick.

We would have to dump an expiring contract on NJ for this to work. I suppose we could sign Theo (or Dale Davis, or...) to a one year contract just large enough to make the trade work. I wouldn't be afraid to throw them our first rounder next year as I don't think there will be abnything with his talent level available to us when we pick.

Krstic is a big, and they are a premium.

He's somewhere between Memo and Gasol, not as skilled as Gasol, but more consistent than Memo.

I'd sell next year's first rounder for him.

NJ was raving about this kid before his injury. If he comes back strong he will be coveted by several teams, however, if that happens NJ may not want to let him go.

We all know Joe likes to take chances, or does he?

From my understanding NJ is looking to trade him off to gain more cap space for Bron-Bron. If we trade some contracts along with our 2010 first rounder (the year of Bron-Bron's FA) am fairly certain they would jump at it because it keeps their salary at a minimum until 2010.
