We should've seen that coming. I'd take AAR over The Hunter any day.

Ack will be a great throw-in player in a mid-season deal third string utility guard.

Wouldn't Bonzi Wells have been a better use of this roster spot?

Huh?
Bonzi is STILL unsigned and would likely accept a 1-year deal for around 2 mil to back-up Tay.

Hey, I'm all for giving Walt Herrmann a shot at the job but...

Well's is a versatile guy who can do what Ack does (be a 4th string 2 guard) AS WELL AS fill the long, sought after roll of back-up SF.

Not sure he would be happy with the 4th string roll and with our current roster cannot handle much turmoil. The chemistry needs to be right for this team to succeed and I am not sure that Bonzo would fit in.

He'd be a 4th string SG.

...but a 2nd string SF. (our weakest position)
There would be plenty of minutes for him compared to what he was getting in Houston and Naw-leans.

As far as chemistry goes, he'd be worth the risk IMO.

Alex Acker has a pretty redundant roll on this team.
We already have about 5 guys that can play his position.

Re: Acker will try to make the Pistons team

We really don't know what a player like Acker is capable of. I would say the same about Bynum, Sharpe and Samb, and maybe to a lesser extent Herrmann. But none of these guys will be a major disruption on the team if it doesn't work out for them. And if any of them break out in the least, then it will either be a big help to our bench or it will give Joe important trade filler. The important thing at the 11-15 range is to have potential and a great attitude. I would say that they all qualify.

In the 9-10 range, a GM would probably be happy with solid role players, ala Aaron Afflalo and Kwame Brown. In the 6-8 spots, you want potential future starters like Stuckey, Maxiell, Amir.

Joe has a nice portfolio here.

I agree about Bonzi. He'd give them a dimension that they don't have at the 3. The CB, Rip, AA, Stuckey logjam might make it tough to bring him in. They've got to find a way to play all of them.

Acker on the other hand has Piston DNA. He's very limited in ability, cheap and there isn't a high demand for his services.
