Quote:
As a rookie last season, there were games when Arron Afflalo would come off the bench and play well, only to be followed by nights when he wouldn't get on the court long enough to break a sweat.

He readily admits that it was frustrating to do exactly what the Pistons coaches asked of him, and still not be rewarded with a consistent role.

Rather than grumble about it, he continued to work on his game. He spent countless hours at the Pistons' practice facility refining his shooting touch and worked on displaying more athleticism, two things many thought were weak points to his game.

Re: Afflalo showing shooting touch this summer

I never thought athleticism was a problem with him. From what I remember, he was usually good in the open court whenever he got the ball in transition.

Outside shooting was his main problem, but he's fundamentally sound and very dedicated, so it's easy enough to believe that he can improve in that department with more consistent PT. Curry says as much in that article.

Re: Afflalo showing shooting touch this summer

Not to put too fine a point on it, but AA shot better than Stuckey in the regular season and in the playoffs. (0.411 to 0.401, 0.208 to 0.188 from three regular season)

Looks like some room for improvement all over.

Re: Afflalo showing shooting touch this summer

Pre draft reports said that Afflalo was one of the best mid range shooters in all of college basketball. I think he just needs a chance to get the shots.

Anyone getting the idea that Afflalo is a personal favorite of Curry (think even Curry as a personal favorite of Carlisle) and will play a large role in the rotation next year.

Re: Afflalo showing shooting touch this summer

It is tough to maintain consistent shooting touch if you don't know when you go in and if you go at all. Players, especially young ones, need some consistency from coaches in order to be consistent.

From the article Roscoe linked to:

Quote:
"He's going to be our backup two (shooting guard)," said Pistons coach Michael Curry. "We expect him to come in and play consistent minutes each night. He'll be a good contributor for us."

Flip had the chicken & the egg complex last season. He says AA and AJ need to be more consistent to get more minutes, the rest of the org seemed to think they needed more minutes to be consistent....go figure.

Re: Afflalo showing shooting touch this summer

Proponents of the bench should appreciate Curry who kinda seems to empathise with those guys. He understands the psyche of the 7-10th man. He knows the obstacles to success from that standpoint. Whether he can actually coach will be seen soon.
