They needed the $$$ to resign JR Smith. I also am fairly certain they plan further moves. Do they involve Melo? I wouldn't be suprised, remember (as far as I know) they never publicly said they wouldn't trade Melo. Melo's agent did.

I wouldn't count on it. AI is not going to want to play in a re-building situation at all, and can cause major trouble + giving away Camby for nothing and then trading Melo might be management suicide.
