Re: 2008/9 Pistons News and Articles

My link of the day is:

Curry wants fewer defensive errors - Detroit Pistons Basketball: News, Blogs, Photos, Audio, Schedule & Stats - MLive.com

Mr. Michael Curry would like to have fewer defensive errors. This is a topic that my sister and I have constantly. Sometimes we feel that too many players (names disclosed) don't really pay attention to defensive errors or make too many of them. I think we made the most fouls last season (minus fouls that the refs think we deserve lol) as a team. I think that if the team pays more attention to how the other team is running their offense and the experience they had with that team. That will eliminate more fouls and other mistakes leading to open dunks, alley-oops, and lay-ups..especially lay-ups.

Quote:
"Let's understand, our guys have been really good over the last six, seven years (defensively). But we've had problems at times maintaining that consistently and playing at a high level," Curry said.
"The bar has been raised really high," Curry concedes. "But you don't raise that bar high because you want to be a really good team. It's because these guys have played really well and they compete at a high level. What we have to do is we do all the little things so we can play at that higher level consistently."
I think that more people need to give him more credit on the ideas that he's coming up with. I understand that talking about ideas aren't going to make our team better but I have a real good feeling that these ideas are going to come into play when the season starts; no, the start of training camp. He has done some things that really make me like him like MAKING/TELLING Rasheed to get into shape and better conditioning and be straight forward with them especially last season. I seen one game where he darn near cursed Rip and Rasheed out both. He has my vote all the way. Can't wait for the season to start.

Curry plans to give Pistons a tune-up | The Detroit News | detnews.com

Curry plans to give Pistons a tune-up

He'll tinker with rotation, routine, keep things fresh

Michael Curry, as a rookie head coach, isn't looking to overhaul the engine in his first training camp -- which opens with Media Day today. Curry's initial mission is to clean the engine, rejuvenate it, and make sure all the parts that have powered the Pistons to six straight Eastern Conference finals appearances are working properly.
By going back to the basics and making sure no detail is overlooked -- be it conditioning, commitment or execution -- Curry hopes to eliminate the breakdowns that have stalled the Pistons the last three conference finals.
Quote:
Curry plans to incorporate a more aggressive, motion-oriented attack to facilitate more post scoring. Points in the paint, he said, can come from dribble penetration and motion, not just from traditional low-post isolation plays.
Music to my ears.

Curry is an amazing off-season coach. His interviews and soundbites are flawless!

At this point, I think that he was a better pick than Laimbeer would have been.

Pistons veteran core returns intact, ready for run -- chicagotribune.com

Finally an article with quotes from players, and it's from the CHI Tribune

Quote:
And if another successful postseason run comes as a result of Curry's dedication to play youthful players more, Pistons' veterans aren't complaining.

"To me, that's good," Wallace said. "When you get in those tough situations, our young guys will be prepared in the playoffs for a tough game. They're going to win some games for us this year and they're going to lose some games for us.

"But I would rather that happen in the regular season so they know how to prepare themselves and they know what to do."
Another article;

True Blue Pistons

so far so good . . .

Re: 2008/9 Pistons News and Articles

RIP on Flip

Quote:
"I was disappointed at the way Flip (Saunders) did things, that was the frustrating thing about it," he said.

Hamilton didn't want to get into specifics, but his major point of contention with Saunders was that he didn't hold all players accountable for their actions.

"Players like to be challenged, and they want discipline, even if they fight at times," coach Michael Curry said.

"Rip was frustrated because he didn't feel that everybody was being held accountable. Our goal as a coaching staff this year is to do a better job holding everybody accountable every day."

Hamilton has been a happy camper thus far and is anxious to turn the page on last season.

"I don't want to talk about (Saunders), either," he said. "It's a new season, and I am glad MC is the coach. You can't look to the past. I am glad to move on and focus on the season ahead of us."

Pistons' Stuckey looks to add mid-range jumper - Detroit Pistons Basketball: News, Blogs, Photos, Audio, Schedule & Stats - MLive.com

Quote:
... he spent a considerable amount of time this summer improving his mid-range jumper. It has looked strong thus far in training camp, but the first real test will come Sunday when Detroit opens its preseason schedule at Miami.
"I'm just trying to get better, that's all," Stuckey said. "I'm trying to improve in all areas of my game."
However, his ability to shoot mid-range jumpers consistently will make him an even tougher player to defend.
"You don't see too many guards that like contact the way he does," Pistons forward Antonio McDyess said. "If he keeps getting better with his mid-range game, teams won't know what to do with him."
Go Stuck!!!
