Discuss: Isolating Amir's Foul Problem(s) at Detroit Pistons Fan Community - PistonsForum.com

Fouling a dunker is a good thing right ? Especially if he is a ~60% free thrower....

Is it because of:

1. Youth
2. Inexperience
3. Haven't earned respect for the refs
4. Lack of confidence
5. Poor Spacing
6. Poor Anticipation
7. Other
8. All of the above

Someone here at the job asked me about this, therefore, I am interested in how you men and women feel about this issue.

It is probably all of the above, but I am not sure what I would throw into the Other category. Technically at this moment he would still be a senior in college who the coach did not play enough to learn or get coached on items 2 and 5.

Definitely has not earned the respect of the refs, but the more he plays, he should as we can almost see the refs backing off Stuckey despite the five fouls he got yesterday.

He is more aggressive than the rest of the guys we got up front, and the refs got to blow the whistle on somebody who may not give them that much backtalk and lip service. I have never seen Amir complain about a call yet...

Re: Isolating Amir's Foul Problem(s)

From what I have seen of Amir he tends to try to guard people with his hands too much. He commits alot of touch fouls especially on the perimeter. He needs to realize that getting a hand up or getting a body on most guy's is enough to alter a shot. You can't block every shot and if you get beat by your man let him go. You have to trust that a teammate will pick the guy up or if all else fails the guy misses the shot.

Also there is such a thing as making a foul count. If your going to foul a guy hammer him especially in the paint. Make sure it is not AND 1. Make the guy think twice before coming in the paint again.

Not really cause they were calling all type of things for Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose when Chicago played Miami.

But I think Amir has foul problems because of the refs. That can kill a player esp. the Garbage Man. They don't really know what he can do so they call all times of crap but it's been a couple of times where he has actually fouled.

Re: Isolating Amir's Foul Problem(s)

Lots of good answers and I think the problem stems from all of them. I said it a few days ago; I get the feeling that Amir thinks the way he got back on the court was making "those plays" that his teammates can't. The hustle plays like blocking a shot you shouldn't have been able to or at least altering it.

Yesterday was the first time I heard Curry in the post game say that "he told Amir that I just don't want you in the game; I need you in the game". The next logical step is to teach AJ that he doesn't have to get to every shot attempt.

He is playing a little out of control right now because that is what MC told him his role was and that is how he has increased his minutes. Now it is time to reel him back in so he can play longer minutes.

It's kind of like finding the perfect golf swing. Swing as hard as you can five times in a row and then throttle back what feels like 85%. The fatigue of the swings and the mental slow down will put you at 80% of full power but a lot smoother.

Comparing Amir's play to a golf swing...priceless. I like it.

Re: Isolating Amir's Foul Problem(s)

I see nothing wrong with what he's doing. When healthy we're deep at that position and his foul situation is usually negligible. The last thing I want is for Amir to adjust his high energy game and come out flat in an effort to save fouls. He just needs a slight tweak and some R-E-SP-E-C-T from the refs.
