Joe D.'s Draft Picks

Everyone will agree that "The Prince" has so far been the cream of the crop.

But boy it continues to really piss me off that Joe D. took that useless hunk of wood DMC instead of the 20-20 man, C. Kaman. This is especially the case because Kaman went to Central Michigan, where he was a star, and not some god forsaken pickup team in the middle of that god forsaken country Serbia.

But living in L.A. and watching the 20-20 man put up good numbers almost every night and continue to only get better while DMC rots on the pine is just really irritating to me.

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

If we needed a big guy Bosh would have been a good choice. I have a feeling that Bosh may be a Piston in the summer of 07.

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

Put me down as an early supporter of Kaman. I am always partial to home growners; they usually know what it takes to win. In hindsight, we could have traded down that year and still come out on top. In any "do-over" draft the possibilities are endless. Maybe we work out a trade with the Clips?

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

I understand these "what might have been" feelings, but it's a bit unfair on Joe when everybody was saying that the "big three" of the draft were (in no particular order) Darko, Lebron and Carmelo, and since we picked second, the choice was either Darko or Carmelo. I remember lots of people giving him heck for picking Darko, but from the beginning I thought that Prince would be fine at the 3, so picking a long-term project like Darko didn't seem unreasonable.

Actually, it still doesn't seem unreasonable, especially given how successful we've been the past two seasons. I just wonder when (if?) Darko is ever going to become a regular contributor. He's just buried on the bench right now....

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

I agree.

THe Darko pick, IMO, was the reasonable pick at that time. Yup, and there go the Darko haters....

Anyway, I think Joe has done pretty well in the draft contrary to what people say. Prince, Okur have been his best draft choices. Never really liked Melo, but the guy has game, I admit. I would have taken Wade given what we know now. Bosh is just too timid and soft-spoken, I think. I've never seen him go off. But yup, he could be better in a Piston uniform than Darko right now.

But the draft fell into place the way it did and the NBA has never been brighter. Stars in Miami, and Denver and Toronto but still a great team in Detroit.

And we would have nothing to talk about right?

Bosh lit up the Pistons for 37 recently. I call that going off against a team that passed you over for a useless lump of isht.

I can't stand Kaman. The dude makes so many stupid mistakes it's incredible. No way in hell would he play more than Darko here considering the little progress he's made with three years of starter minutes. The dude just rushes everything, and makes everything so much harder than it has to be. Bosh, Wade, Melo, TJ Ford, Hinrich, on the other hand.... I would give my right leg to have them on the team.

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

I meant show some sort of drive, some sort of streak. I don't know, something about him just isn't hungry maybe get a tech or two. I don't know. But the guy has game and that 37 was evidence for that.

Gazoo, I feel your pain man. Who knows, Darko might go for 40 someday, when he comes back to the Palace and we'd be saying that'd be payback for not giving him enough run.

Bricalz,

I wouldn't stress too much over this. DMC will be going for 40 at the Palace right around the time that I get to play QB for the Lions.

Even if he did, I'll get concerned, feel guilty when he goes for 40 three times in a best of seven. Until then, WHOOPITY DOO!

Joe D is lousy with lottery picks. Thank the lord we have a good team that earns low draft position. Then Joe doesn't feel pressure to select talent that may not have Pistons DNA.

Re: Joe D.'s Draft Picks

If you need a lottery pick you've done something wrong. If you trade into one you've done something right. If you trade out of a lotto pick you've done something wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right. However expecting someone to sit and watch for 2 yr. is wrong.
