| Re: Fantasy Basketball Pointers Couple of questions… How many players does a team carry? I get that ten can be active at any time (and changed as long as they are not actually playing in a real game pretty much anytime). On scoring… Scoring is based on the number of categories won in total over the course of a week, right? My player’s stats are summed over all the games they played (in which I had them “active”) in that week. I’m guessing having lots of players from the same team doesn’t help you very much, especially when they have a light week and don’t play many games – since seven of the ten categories are volume based. Just getting your players who are playing any particular night active seems like a real key to being competitive.

| Re: Fantasy Basketball Pointers You never want to consolidate your players from only a few teams. It's also not wise to carry backups for your premier players. If Kirilenko goes down, better players can be found than Matt Harpring, whose production will never be more than half of Kirilenkos. I **believe** we can carry 13 or 15. Fantasy bball is a raw stats sport. You can win by bludgeoning your opponent by simply accumulating more raw stats, however volume scorers generally tend to shoot a lower %, and volume rebounders/shot blockers will accumulate more fouls and lower FT% (more fouls = bad). The goal is not to build the perfectly balanced team. In my opinion, it's to build a team that can win 40~50% of the categories each week and taking advantage of your opponent's weaknesses in other categories to steal couple more for the weekly win. Bear in mind, fantasy basketball is a marathon, not a sprint. You want the best playoff ready roster and to make the upper playoff bracket (teams 1 ~6). It is very possible to make a run from the 6th seed, and to lose as the 1st seed. Who drafts best only sets the table. How you manage injuries, free agency and build a team with a plan to be very good in key categories is the ideal.

Right. You don't want too many players on one team. I'd try to keep it to two maximum, and not have too many teams where you have more than one player, although I've had three on the same team and it didn't seem to hurt at all. One thing that some people say to watch when you draft is the fantasy playoff schedule for that player. In essence, how many games does he play during the final 3 weeks of the regular season (our playoff season). Well, lemme tell you this. I almost hurt myself making a couple of late season trades based on this. The reason is because during the last ten days to two weeks even if a players team has a lot of games scheduled he may not play in any of them because if his team in real life has clinched a playoff spot, the coach may choose to rest him. Yes, the numbers are added up and the totals at the end of the week are what counts. The week goes Monday through Sunday. Be aware: some weeks (like the all star break) are only 3 or 4 days long. Hope that helps. Last edited by Darth Tater : 09-18-2006 at 05:45 PM. |

| Re: Fantasy Basketball Pointers Yeah I had a fun fantasy b ball season last year. In the beggining I was 1st. Than for 10 weeks I stood my gorund and stayed in 2nd place. Injuries caught up to me though and that lead vanished as I got out of the top 6. After making some moves though I managed to be tied for the last spot with 1 week left after falling to 7th place. Coincidentally I faced the guy I was tied with...slippy. It was greeat. It went up to the last day of that week and I squeaked into the playoffs with a 5-4 victory .The glory didn't last long as I got blown out of the playoffs, but the season was fun, and I didn't quit at the end when it looked like my team collapsed.
