Another quick follow up. I watched last night on League Pass so I got Al Trautwig and Kenny Smith. I hadn't heard Kenny call a game before and am still a bit amazed about how bad he is - doesn't watch the game and doesn't seem to have much if any idea what the rules are.

One thing they surely didn't know was that a couple of Sheed's earlier techs had been rescinded by the league so they were calling for a suspension tonight. I didn't dream that right? The league did give him a couple back?

Trautwig and Smith are horrible, they're the regular Knicks announcers. They kept talking about Sheed being suspended. I guess they didn't realize he had 2 techs rescinded.

Re: Detroit At NewYork - March 17 7:30PM

If this isn't a huge wake-up call for the Pistons, then I will be worried. The Pistons fell into the belief that they could coast for a couple of quarters and then turn it on and win. Somewhere along the line they have lost the ability to turn it on. Have they forgotten how they played early in the season?

The rebounding stats are troubling. We expect Ben to do all the rebounding. Lately he has not. He not only needs the help but needs to get his own butt in gear.

We need someone to drive to the hoop. Amir and Acker are doing just that now. Maybe we need to bring them up to show us how its done.

We need to re-learn how to defend the pick and roll. Why do we seem to be leaving such large seams lately?

Don't even ask me about Flip and his decision to keep Evans on defense last night.

Before the hotheads Rip and Sheed decided to take off, we were already fading as we let what look like an insurmountable lead dwindle down to 7. I knew then that things did not look good. What happen to our championship defense? Once again we let a team near the cellar beat us. Yeah we may have "outscored" them if Sheed and Rip had been in the game, but still I ask where is the defense?

How come the Mavs can handle the Wiz convincingly and we get blown out by them and then lose to a team that is even worse? The Spurs also take care of what is supposedly the 4th best team in the league Sun with no problem. If we are supposedly the best team, why are we having problems with lower eschelon teams?

For those of you who say that we are OK with this 51-13 record, please wake up and realize that this is not the same team that played so well through January. The defense is lacking focus and intensity and they are not playing it on consistent basis night in and night out. If Delfino or Davis can play some D then they need to be inserted in the game for defensive stops and Flip has to stop relying on Evans if he is getting continually beaten by his man.

We won almost every statistical category tonight with exception of the total points, the shooting % and the points in the paint. Looks like Sheed was having a good game, but then he has to start shooting his mouth off. He and Rip cannot get away with these shanigans when the refs are already stacking the deck against you. The problem is some of our guys complain on every call instead of letting it go and just playing their game to win. Joe needs to step in and get these guys back on track if Flip can't do it. That HCA is looking very shakey now with the Mavs actually having the advantage and momentum at this time. (tied with a victory already over the once might Pistons)
Do u notice how two good ole Cass tech boys see so evenly on this team? I watched my DVr recording and posted 1:30AM feeling so disillushioned about this team. I want a 20 point win tonight...Just for my sanity's sake....I'm watching a "Frasier" marathon in my dark room til 6Pm for goodness sake..........

I always thought Kenny Smith was an illiterate idiot and last night confirmed it. Especially with not knowing the technical points rule on sheed and that he actually got T'd fussing at Francis. He and Trautwig were a nightmare and that little midget Robinson would have gotten his azs kicked by Worm, Horn or Zeke with all that damn jumpin around !

Re: Detroit At NewYork - March 17 7:30PM

I tried to laugh this loss off. I couldn't. 10 minutes after the game was over, I felt ill. Normally I feel like assaulting furniture (Games 1 and 5 of the Finals last season). Maybe I have wised up and realised that pounding my armrest hurts my wrist more than it makes me feel better, or that this is just the beginning of a fallout.

If the playoffs started today, I would be questioning if we can win our first round series in less than 6 games, rather than having the swagger and arrogance that I should have that the title is ours for the taking.

Re: Detroit At NewYork - March 17 7:30PM

I'll say it again.

Flip hasn't been coaching for quite some time.

The new offense was what caught the league off guard.

The losses continue.

No control of the team. A failure to make adjustments that rivals Rick Carlisle.

We are ripe for a first round upset unless Joey D. has a coming to Jesus meeting with Flip.

We don't have a playoff coach on our hands, just a regular season coach who does an excellent job of getting our guys ready before the game.

He's as advertised since his hiring.

The emphasis on winning this year is on the players. Flip simply provided our team with another weapon..offense. We are Flip's best chance at a championship not vice-versa.

Unfortunately, I don't think that is enough right now.

I hope our beloved team proves me wrong.

What a waste if they don't. What a waste.

Excellent post. Hard to disagree with anything you've said here.
