| 6 to watch in 2006 http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_17170.shtml SIX WORTH WATCHING There are six players who have made themselves eligible this year, who are absolutely worth tracking – forget the hype, forget the college career – these are the players that will surprise you were they get drafted: Guillermo Diaz 6-2 190 PG/SG Miami Jr.: Guillermo is going to surprise a lot of people, most mock drafts have him in the late 1st round or into the 2nd round. At Miami, he was hot and cold, but hung huge numbers on big programs. If he is 4 inches taller, he’s a top five pick. Think Gilbert Arenas or Ben Gordon, that’s his game. In a pre-draft training his vertical was over 42 inches, and people near those workouts say he’s likely going to measure in NBA tests at over 45 inches. Guillermo supposedly has killer range out to 19-20 feet, and has track star speed, add that to his Latin appeal to teams with a heavy Hispanic base – Guillermo could shock a lot of people and mess around and get drafted in the lottery. Brandon Roy 6-5 195 SG Washington Sr.: There is a growing consensus that Brandon is the most NBA ready player in the class. Some have compared him to a Jalen Rose-type, with enough size to play and dominate at the 2, and enough speed and skill to be a playmaker. If you’re looking for an early rookie of the year candidate, Brandon may be the guy, especially if he goes to a team where he can play immediately. Andrea Bargnani 6-11 240 PF Italy 1985: Andrea was named the Euroleague Rising Star this year, shoots the ball incredibly well, better than 30% from Euroleague three. Not a dominating scorer, drawing a lot of Dirk Nowtiski comparisons – he’s tall, white and shoots the ball. If Chicago nabs the 2nd pick, its hard not to believe they don’t take Andrea, if he’s on the board past the top 5 be surprised. By far the best Euro in the draft. Ronnie Brewer 6-7 217 SG Arkansas Jr.: Ronnie could be a special player in the NBA – he has shown great ability to lead a team. The question becomes does he have enough offense at this level. Most consider him a two guard, but at the NBA level he could be a very big point – think Penny Hardaway. Ronnie has to show he can score effectively at this level, but he could be a guy that sneaks into the lottery. Jordan Farmar 6-1 170 PG UCLA So.: Jordan has some hype from the NCAA tournament, but more importantly, he’s got some game. He is likely the 4th or 5th point guard in the class; he is a guy that could really climb if he outplays some of the names in front of him. Saer Sene 7-0 235 C Senegal: Think DeSagana Diop, DJ Mbenga – big body, long wingspan (over 7’8), he is a much better athlete than Diop and Mbenga, but has the same problem on offense. Anyone looking for a project center will drool over Saer.
