The Rockets have won seven of nine games since Yao Ming broke a bone in his right leg and much of it is due to the suddenly spry Mutombo, who's had double-digit rebound totals in eight consecutive games.

"It's amazing, just the way I'm playing," said the 7-foot-2 Mutombo. "Even to myself, I'm sitting down like, 'Whoa, is Mutombo really playing like that?' I haven't seen myself jumping for a rebound like that for a while."

Note that blocks weren't recorded until Kareem's fifth year as a pro, and that the number of shots Wilt and Russell blocked is indeterminate. Still, a remarkable accomplishment from a great guy.

Well... um.... I don't really want to sex Mutombo up, but that looked like a nice, clean block.

I also liked his use of himself in the 3rd person.

P.S. Speaking of Mutombo, this was my favourite Darko moment of all time!

I loved how Darko didn't back down at all, just stood nose to nose with him and then laughed at the end. Too bad this was also the only time Darko ever showed any passion...

Of course, I'll substitute "TayShawn" for "Mutumbo" though.

Darko was probably thinking, 'I wish I spoke better English so I could tell what he is saying. I'll just assume its a funny joke and laugh. hahaha.'

Mutombo has cult- status. Sad that he's going to leave the NBA probably after this season. I'll miss his finger waiving.

Excellent point... gotta believe Russell holds the real record by a wide margin... 5+ blocks a game was more the norm than the exception.
