Re: Western Conf Bias???

It exists. I have always disliked the West. And the Milwaukee Bucks.

The majority of big time, whatever that means, East coast sports writers are based in New York or Boston (ESPN). I think the fact that the Celtics and Knicks are not very good, has some kind of subliminal affect on these writers attitude about the Eastern Conference in general. If the Celtics and Knicks were top notch playoff teams I think there were be less bias against the Eastern Conference in the main stream basketball media.

Re: Western Conf Bias???

According to the games played as of this date, the West has won more games against the East, but it was not as far apart as I would have believed.

According to my quick scan, the West has won 243 of the 428 games played, interconference, for .567 percent. The East has won 185 of the 428 for a winnning percent of .432.

I did not check relative scores, just wins and losses against each other.

Not a huge difference, but seems notworthy.

Budda is right. With the Celtics and Knicks down, the bias lives....in the press.

Here's how I would look at it. In head-to-head competition, the West has 58 more wins than the East. That is 31% more wins! Very significant.

For comparison, the Bulls have 31% more wins than the Magic. So, the West is like the Bulls and the East is like the Magic. Who is better? Da Bulls da Bulls da Bulls da Bulls.

The difference is also about the same for Utah/or Houston compared to Golden State.

Admit it, the Pistons have an easy path to the Finals. If we were in the West, we'd be sweatin it.

TaShawn,

Except that the Magic has beaten them 2 out of 3 this season.

Who can tell?

Try taking out Dallas Phoenix and San Antonio and you get West 176 up and 168 down and East of course just the reverse. Dallas Phoenix and San Antonio are 67-17 against the East or .798. In their own conference they are 88 - 30 or .745. A difference to be sure but not as big as people make is seem.

So yes the West is better than the East, but that is due to 3 out of the 15 teams in the West, which happen to be the top three teams in the league, notwithstanding the Pistons. LOL The other 12 teams or 80% of the teams in the West are on par with the East.

That is because they don't have to play themselves. If they did, they would theoretically go .500 against themselves and they would be .720 in the West compared to .798 against the East.

That winning % difference would be like winning 65.4 games in an 82 game season vs. winning only 59.
