Like I said he should be able to score just fine. Eventually 15 + points a game.

But he will never rebound or generate assists. He is a tall Bellinelli. LOL

Re: Will Durant Become The Next Darko?

I bet some of you guys went to the Palace and cruelly shouted "Darko! Darko!" destroying the young man's confidence by your eagerness to see him play.

My take on the Durant thing is this: Give him one more Summer League game to get his butt in gear. If he keeps slacking off he deserves ther same treatment Darko got...I think the crowd should start chanting his name and cheering for him...it's tough love.

Or a taller Nick Young?

Don't hate on one guy and exclude your favorites.

So far Young is shooting worse than Durant. 1 rebound is all he could muster as well.

Yet no Darko comparison thread yet?

Thats not fair at all is it?

Usually fans of Jung aren't so quick to make fundamental attribution errors.

Perhaps a review would be in order?

Re: Will Durant Become The Next Darko?

As Sheed said in his interview, the young players are being judged by their performance in the NBA, not in SL, school, college, or anywhere else for that matter. The book is out on all of this year's picks.

You are correct, but Young wasn't and still isn't being hyped by the media as the next great NBA superstar. The guys and gals who are expected to do the most are the ones who get the tougher love.

If anything a guys level of performance will go down as the degree of difficulty in competition increases not the other way around.

That are a number of guys each year who shine in the SL and then are are cloud bursts during the regular season.

Rarely is it ever the reverse.

There's a post on TrueHoop today that challenges the validity of the Duncan/Durant comparison.

This story has been used to laugh off performances like Kevin Durant's 4 for 19 in his second game. I'm not worried about Kevin Durant's future. But I am worried about using a tale of a player who shot 60% from the floor to explain a player who shot 21%.
One important difference between Durant and Darko is that Darko had little experience as a key player on any team prior to being drafted, so he had a much bigger transition to make.

If he is too young to cut the mustard he should have stayed in school.

This is only the summer league where the competition is a lot weaker than the regular season, will Durant have the guts to show up come November or find himself conveniently on medical leave?

How many millions is he getting? At least Darko was smart enough to be out of condition his first year, knowing that if he were in condition Brown would have played him and Darko would have come up smelling like gunk. (I don't believe that for a minute but it sounded good. LOL)

I think it is only a matter of time before Durant brings a doctor's note to practice.

The hysterical part of the whole thing is that Stern can't help Durant shoot straight or get rebounds, only foul shots which Durant has had plenty of the first two games. (At least he is making those).

ESPN - Sheridan: Carlesimo not panicking over Durant duds - NBA

Even Oden gets a medical leave to have his tonsils taken out, after two games in the summer league.

ESPN - Tonsillectomy means summer ends early for Oden - NBA

I am sure glad that we have got Hod Rod. This kid is a baller.

I agree with you just as much as usual.

Re: Will Durant Become The Next Darko?

So, if the Pistons would have had the second pick in the draft, would Dumars have picked Durant and kept him? Yes.

You gotta give Durant some time to show his game here. But the possibility of him not being able to translate his game to the NBA shows what a difficult thing it is to size up college players.
