Smile Congrads To Mikki Moore On His New Contract

Shooting all those thousands of shots in extended practice not only paid off in him winning the NBA FG% crown but also in a very nice contract for a guy that most thought would never advance beyond the "D" league.

Mikki Moore. As one G.M. said, he would've wanted Mikki Moore when he was trying to earn himself a guaranteed contract – not after being given the security of a three-year, $18 million contract.
Wojo's idiotic comment about Mikki Moore having an inflated field goal percentage, 60% last year, because of Jason Kidd's passing is just more of his continuous flow of idiotic and ignorant babble.

That is not to say the Mikki didn't benefit from Jason's passing, but I didn't see Carter or Jefferson shooting 60% last year and they both have a heck of lot more talent and ability to get open than Mikki does. They both shot around 45% from the field last year

Maybe if the Det News replaced McCosky with Wojo you would get your wish.

Re: Congrads To Mikki Moore On His New Contract

I dunno, I think there is some truth to that statement. Having Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson as the primary options on offense with one of the top 3 passing guards in the NBA would inflate any Big man's FG%. With double teams chasing Carter and Jefferson its a big man's heaven. The more interesting stat is how much Carter and Jefferson's FG%s rise when they are both healthy. Give Kidd more options on offense and everyone appears to benefit.

I'm still happy for Mikki Moore though. He has always been a very hard worker that brings energy. I think he would have had much greater success in the league early on if he didn't have problems packin' on the pounds.

Re: Congrads To Mikki Moore On His New Contract

If you watched Mikki Moore play last year, it was obvious that the free throw line jumper was a huge weapon for him. That is the sort of thing that a big man gets through hard work in the off-season. And most centers in the league would be open for that shot whenever they want it.

Last year, he shot about 55% on jump shots and he took over 40% of his shots from outside the paint. This FG% on jumpers is > 10 percentage points higher than any of our big men (Sheed, Dyess, Mohammed, Maxiell)

When you think of an inflated FG% due to amazing teammates, you would think that he was getting a bunch of bunnies. He got those too, but it was in conjuction with his own production. And getting bunnies takes hard work too. You have to be willing to spend time in the paint. Sheed, for instance, got 6% of his shot attemps on dunks and tip-ins vs. 26% for Mikki.

Mikki played very well last year when Krstic went down. He deserves every penny of it.

I did see Mikki Moore play last year and I agree his jumper was very impressive. However, his jumper has never been questionable. In my opinion his biggest improvement was in rebounding last year. He transitioned from being just a lanky shot blocker to a more complete player. You must have missed my comment about him being a hard worker.

Anyway, its not a false statement to say that one of the best passing point guards in the game has a huge impact on his surrounding cast FG%. I think Kidd inflates everyone's FG% on the team. BTW, Mikki Moore has always shot a pretty decent FG%. Shooting a 60 percent FG% is inflated in my opinion. The odds of him continuing to shoot at a clip higher than Shaq has for most of his career is highly unlikely.

Good for him. He did what he had to improve and earned the payoff.

In 2005-06, he shot 29% on jumpers.
In 2004-05, he shot 32%.
In 2003-04, he shot 36%.

So, last year, he almost doubled his average. He either got that lasik surgery or he put in some serious work.

Hey Tashawn.

Can I ask where you're getting your data from? I'm curious as to the volume of jumpshots during that time span. Watching him in Detroit and Seattle, I don't remember him attempting jump shots that much. And when he did shoot it, I can't remember it being inconsistent. His problem was always that he had trouble defending opposing centers because of his gearth limitations. He also didn't have a very developed post game.

All that being said, it still doesn't take away from my point. Shooting at a 60% clip is an inflated stat for Mikki Moore given his attempts. Thats a percentage that Shaq has only reached a couple times in his career.
