Right now it seems like it`s just Boston and the Pistons. It would really be ashame if the ECF features any teams other than Boston and Detroit.

The remaining EC looks very weak to me, however, things can change. An injury here or there can change everything!

I'd like to agree, but i'm more optimistic but not sold on the Pistons yet. Don't underestimate the power of Flip Saunders to get outcoached.

Re: 2007-08 general league thread (non-Pistons)

The hopes of the Celtics getting beaten on their western trip was squashed tonight as they absolutely destroyed the so called hot Lakers holding them to 35% shooting. Just to make sure that there was no doubt about it, Doc didn't pull the big three until it was less than 3 mins left in the game even though the C's were up 22 at the time?? I see an injury forthcoming or at least a burnout ala 05/06 Pistons team on the horizon for the celtics if Doc continues with 35+ mins.

The Celtics didn't play the Suns or even hotter Trailbalzers on this trip and they still need to go through Texas before the season is over, but I thinking now that the Celtics will probably better the 35-5 Pistons start of 05-06. Don't see them hitting 70 win though because as indicated somebody on that team will wear down.........

Murray would be in the street clothes after a game like that.

The funny thing about that was as bad as Kobe was shooting, the Lakers stayed withing 7 or 8. The minute he was taken out of the game in the 3rd quarter, BOS went on a 21-3 or something similar run.

Guess there is something to be said about just having a superstar presence on the floor.

These are some of the facts from last nights game

This was the second game of a back to back for the Celtics

Celtics shot 39 free throws, they average 27 a game

Bynum, Bryant, Odom all had two fouls in the first quarter when the Celtics got 14 free throws.

Players and coaches are not allowed to comment on the officiating

The lead official was Bennett Salvatore

Bennett Salvatore

Bennett Salvatore is a NBA official who wears No. 15. He was sentenced in 2000 to a year of probation, 150 hours of community service and a fine of $500 for his role in airline ticket fraud. He plead guilty in a New Haven federal court on July 26, 2000 to filing a false tax return with the Internal Revenue Service for the tax year 1993. [1]. He has been heavily criticized by Mark Cuban and Bill Simmons following his role in the 2006 NBA Finals and for other previous incidents. Salvatore has a history of making bad calls against the Mavericks, most notably in the Finals. The Mavericks protested a 111-107 loss at Indiana on Nov. 23, 2007 in a game in which Salvatore was the lead referee.

Salvatore was recently given a chance to defend himself by NBA expert Henry Abbott of the TrueHoop ESPN blog. Salvatore produced previously unseen video showing that Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki clearly pushed Miami guard Dwyane Wade in the back for a foul on one of the critical calls in Game 5 of the 2006 NBA Finals. However, as Abbott correctly notes, before Wade gets to Nowitzki, the video also shows Wade pushing Dallas guard Jason Terry to the ground. Salvatore responds that Terry's "momentum" forces him to the ground.

Dallas fans must have been irate at Salvatore, because previously he seemed to be totally in the pockets of that team.

I would love to have Salvatore explain the following.

Remember the infamous free throw contest that was Game 1 of the WCF in 2003, Spurs vs Mavs? That refereeing crew, led by Mr Salvatore, decided to give each team about 50 free throws. Now everyone knows the Spurs cannot win a free throw contest against the Mavs. True enough those guys hit 49 of their freebies to steal the game.
Dallas made 49 of 50 free throws
San Antonio made 31 of 48 free throws.

The Mavs free throw percentage that year was 83%
The Spurs free throw percentage that year was 73%

The Spurs did go on to win the NBA Title that year in spite of losing game #1 to the Mavs.

Re: 2007-08 general league thread (non-Pistons)

Celtics pull out another victory 97-93 over the rockets. Celtics had a 20 point lead in the first half before the Rockets came all the way back to take a 84-81 lead with about 6 mis left in the game....However the Celtics defense clamped down and outscored the rockets 16-9 down the stretch to pull out a victory. KG was spectacular durin that stretch ..darn him. Looks like NBA league pass will be broadcasting the Celtics Sports Network Saturday and us out of towners will have to put up with Tommy Point Heinson for the color commentary and his homer play-by play guy for the Pistons/Celtic game.

Meanwhile Miami continues to lose as the Bucs come off their 45 point drubbing by the Pistons to beat the cold Heat by 6. Wade went out in the final seconds holding a block of ice on his hands..but he will probably be OK... Riley, though may come up with another excuse for surgery, but not sure if any of his assistants want to take over.
