Smile Celtics New Team Chant

Doc Rivers has instituted a new Celtics chant "ubunto" in the locker room before games and during time outs.

This of course is not in reference to the Linux operating system but rather in reference to the sub-Saharan African ethic humanist ideology phrase.

Quote:
Ubuntu, pronounced /ùbúntù/, is a sub-Saharan African ethic or humanist ideology focusing on people's allegiances and relations with each other. The word has its origin in the Bantu languages of Southern Africa. Ubuntu is seen as a traditional African concept.
Meaning

There are many possible translations in English for ubuntu, including:
  • "Humanity towards others"
  • "I am because we are"
  • "I am what I am because of what we all are"
  • "A person 'becomes human' through other persons"
  • "A person is a person because of other persons"
A popular definition of ubuntu is, "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity."[1]
TE]
I think that this is a great idea to develop and maintain team unity ahead of any one player's stats.

I guess this is somewhat similar to our "Going To Work" concept.

I can picture Brian Scalabrine chanting "Ubuntu".

Re: Celtics New Team Chant

I think they should have just gone with the English translation as their chant:

One, two, three, A PERSON IS A PERSON BECAUSE OF OTHER PERSONS, yeah!!!

That would be so indimidating for the other team.
