Brent Barry

There are reports that Brent Barry is getting bought out from his recent trade... I'm not sure what his injury status and interest in salary are... but is he worth taking a look at?

I know we just pick up Dixon, but Barry is a proven playoff deadly 3 point shooter. He would be worth cutting if Joe could wheel something together.

Brent Barry could definitely help the Pistons.

Re: Brent Barry

The Spurs are getting him back.

He would be a nice addition to our bench. Wouldn't that push us into luxury tax territory though?

I would be strongly in favor of us picking him up.

Man, the Spurs are looking tough. This is probably the most excited I have been to actually watch all of the Western Conference playoff matchups. The first round is going to be awesome.

Re: Brent Barry

I have also heard reports that the Phoenix suns have a chance of getting him. So if he is interested in joining another team, I hope Joe D at least puts us into the running, it'd be hard to pass up on talent like that in a position that we could use.

The big question is salary - how much he wants and if we go over. And of course, if he wants to sit behind Rip Hamilton for 35 minutes a game, share limited time with Afflalo, just to shoot threes. Might not be his best option, but worth a try.

Re: Brent Barry

Roscoe, what's the deal on the salary cap threshold?

Aren't we just under right now?

It is my understanding that we have room to sign someone like Davis for the minimal amount, but that we are completely unwilling to go over the line and sacrifice the luxury tax rebate.

Brent Barry would surely command twice as much as a Davis, right?

Even if you are over the cap you can sign guys to the minimum. Do we have part of the MLE still, or do we lose that?

It sounds like the Spurs have a deal to just sign him back.

If Barry did come to the Pistons, I'm sure they would find him the same 18 minutes he is getting in San Antonio. Afflalo would be squeezed out of the lineup and I'm sure he could help out at SF some, as well.

Oh. That must have been negotiated in by the players union for the benefit of guys like Dale Davis. Otherwise they'd be effectively frozen out of the league b/c no teams would budget for that.
