FOX Sports on MSN - NBA - Howard: 'I have and do partake in smoking weed'

First off, why would you admit to smoking weed in a radio interview? Why would you do this during the playoffs of all times to do it? He claims smoking weed doesn't affect his game and he does it in the off season. Are we really so sure that it is not affecting his game and that he only does it in the off season? I don't know if I buy either of those claims.

It will be intersting to see what KING Stern has to say about this information and what the player association does if he is fined or suspended.

Why would that matter?

Re: Mavs player Josh Howard 'I have and do partake in smoking weed'

I said my piece on this in chat last night, but I'll repeat this here.

Marijuana criminalization is a joke that most of society laughs at when the go to the movies and watch modern comedies.

I think Howard was reckless, but also brave for coming out on this. It's people having the courage to stand up and be honest, that push the boundaries. It costs $25,000 a year to incarcerate someone arrested for non-violent drug use. There are 100's of thousands of people in jail for this. The social cost of fighting a substance that is less harmful than alcohol is staggering. And wrong in my opinion.

Absolutely. And until you get more prominent people to speak out nothing will change.

Never smoke it, but don't know why it is illegal either since alcohol is...but both are addictive and can lead to do something that you don't remember the next day or can cause serious harm to you and others.

Agree he could have waited until the end of the season to admit what others already know that he and other athletes lite it up just like plain folks who don't play sports

Dumb thing to say in light of Napoleon.

This kind of stuff bores the %%%%e out of me. There's always at least 1 boring off the court subject that appears every year that everyone (the media) gets all worked up about, thinking that everyone else cares too.

I don't hear anyone still talking about John Amaechi. (yeah, who?)

Re: Mavs player Josh Howard 'I have and do partake in smoking weed'

I don't want anything to be legal that I cannot bottle up and prescribe, making FAT money for myself and the pharmaceutical companies in the process.

Average folks can't grow Xanax in their backyard.

I'm down with that.

I agree, but what poor timing. Revealing to a drug addict (Michael Irvin) about marijuana use. If he wanted to admit something, he should have admited this to a friend or off the record. Obviously many of us smoke weed, no big deal. He just used poor judgement (maybe he was high) to admit something like that a day before a playoff game. Also, he implicated other nba players. Idiot.
