Re: NBA to Fine Flopping

There will be six judges courtside who will hold up cards rating the flops by the players. They will score on the Olympic based 6.0 point system. Then they will add to the score the "player" factor multiplier. Players like Kobe who are vital to the ratings of the NBA will pay a small fine. Players who are entertaining to watch like "Sideshow Bob" will also pay a small fine. Players from San Antonio and Detroit will have multipliers which cause large fines to kick in....

Fines won't matter to the players in isolation. I think there were always fines for technicals, but Rasheed didn't drop from over 40 techs in a season to under 20 just because of fines. You have to suspend players who rack up flopping violations in order for it to have any chance of making a difference.

I know with that Olympic scoring system LeBron will have trouble. His flops have bad timing. He gets touched and then it takes him about two seconds to start jerking and spasming....he needs to clean that up for next year.

Steady floppin is a way of life.

I'd also like to see officials get fined for phantom fouls. Why would they make a call if they didn't see it? $50 cash on the spot for every missed call. If the crowd, both teams, and the television audience are all there to witness the cash exchange, it will really motivate the refs to call what they see, not what they surmise.

From that. Have to say that I agree. It will clean a lot of things up and make it a lot easier for the refs to do their jobs. For as much as people knock them they should be given a chance to improve things if they can.

Quote:
Detroit's Rasheed Wallace, a player who has 15 technicals this season and has been suspended in the past for being over the limit for technicals, gave his opinion of floppers to ESPN after the Pistons' 106-102 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Wednesday.

"All that bull(bleep)-ass calls they had out there. With Mike [Callahan] and Kenny [Mauer] -- you've all seen that (bleep)," Wallace said. "You saw them calls. The cats are flopping all over the floor and they're calling that (bleep). That (bleep) ain't basketball out there. It's all (bleeping) entertainment. You all should know that (bleep). It's all (bleeping) entertainment."

Re: NBA to Fine Flopping

Good thing Varejao got that nice new contract. He'll need the extra money. Are fines tax deductible?

EDIT: Hey Max, great minds think alike. I just saw your post after submitting mine.

Re: NBA to Fine Flopping

At first, the NBA said they would not fine flopping. Then they changed their minds. I guess they need to fine themselves for flopping.
