LeBron to Europe for $50 million a season? I don't believe that of a second.

Re: LeBron to Europe???

For those of you who believe that the NBA shouldn't be worried about their players being lured overseas, here's an article for you...............

ESPN - Source: LeBron would consider European offer of $50M a year or more - NBA

Nobody would have believed MJ would make 33 mil in 97-98 a few years before that either!

Re: 2008-09 general league thread (non-Pistons)

LeBron leaving for Europe seems remarkably unlikely to me. I think a more likely target, and perhaps a smart move by a Euroleague team that wanted to make a big splash (as opposed to throwing Monopoly money at LeBron and getting turned down), would be Kobe.

I think Kobe's current contract runs through the end of the 2011 season. He grew up in Europe while his dad was playing there, and he speaks Italian (plus Spanish, I think?), so I can see him being tempted by that. Particularly if the Lakers manage to win a title between now and then, which would "prove" that he didn't need Shaq to win it all. If he's managed to accomplish that by the time his contract is up, I could see him thinking, "I've done everything I wanted to in the NBA, so now I'll blaze another trail by being the first superstar to leave for Europe." It might make a lot of sense for him, especially if it means he can make tens of millions more over there than he could in another NBA contract.

Or the imposition of a European one. And the beginning of the formation of the GBA that might have a true world champion.

It probably depends how entrenched Kobe and his family are in America.

Lebron may have more freedom to do what's best for Lebron. He has stated that he wants to be a billionaire, so it would help him achieve that noble goal.
