Re: Denver @ Detroit Sunday October 22

Kleiza got the better of Delfino IMO.

Nene had his way with whoever he wanted for most of the first half.

Prince played Melo tough, and they went back and forth at one another (rivalry) but it seemed like Melo got the best of Tay in the end, albeit by a little.

JMax got abused by Martin when he was guarding him and didn't really score a lot on KMart. The stat line is in JMax's favor, but I'd say KMart is still the teacher and JMax the student.

Blalock, rough day at the office.

I can't say that Flip Murray was particularly good.

And Billups allowed a lot of penetration. Way too much Andre Miller dancing around in the paint for my liking. Denver has too many scorers to allow a so-so finisher like Miller to set up his perimeter scorers.

This isn't defense specific but Dice is just slow. I know I am probably approaching "player hater" territory, but he hasn't been very good in the last year, and I see more of the same. Ill-timed fouls, slow rotations, passive defense and even more passive offense.

The Nugs have our #. It's like 2004 all over again with the Nets. Billups has to be a hot outside shooter (see last year's Suns away game) and the team has to rebound and make hustle plays to hang with these fun'n gun squads. Quite simply, this is not a very fast team. Athletic as all get out, but not very quick.

I should add that the Pistons zoned ineffectively. Denver seemed to make their treys and long jumpers off ball movement when the Pistons zoned.

Betweening typing in chat and trying to take the game in, it's hard to catch nuances. If it was a better game, I would probably watch it again.

Re: Denver @ Detroit Sunday October 22

I didn't see the game, but heard most of the audio. Seems like it was run and gun inside and out. The Nuggets took 25 - 3's and hit 10 of them. The Pistons hit two. That was the difference in terms of the scoring differential.

Even though we were beating them on the boards they were still outpacing us to the tune of 34-13 in FB points.

We won the points in the paint battle 60-52, but we should never give up that many points in the paint. Sheed was missing with the groin injury and apparently the newbies were only interested in scoring points and their defense still needs to be develped. Our 60 PIP mostly came from those newbies, AJ, JMAX and finally Dupree in the end as we know he is hard press to make a shot outside 10 ft.

Hopefully when the season starts, Delfino stops practicing his 3 ball and looks for some Dupree-like high percentage shots!!

Like what brahma -max has done in the preseason and he should get at least 10-12 mins per game to start the season.

WOW! Six excuses in one post! You're on a roll bball-jay!

Yep, a sure fired way to make me not lilke a player is to hear bball-jay make ridiculous excuses for their ability not to perform.

Anyway, I hope Delfino's "shooting slump" that has seemingly lasted multiple seasons ends soon. Unfortunately, I didn't watch the game, but his consistently poor field goal percentage is begiinning to erk me a bit.

Re: Denver @ Detroit Sunday October 22

Was at the game last night. Acquired two $175 tickets. One hundred seventy five dollars doesn't buy you much any more! Glad I didn't have to pay for them. Also, did you know that if you buy a bottle of water (for $3) you don't get to keep the cap. Something about a league rule to keep people from throwing the caps. I'll bring my own cap next time - if there is a next time.

Enough complaining about the venue. Let me do some complaining about the team. We still haven't acquired any jump shooting or point guard help. Denver has way better outside shooting than we do - and we're supposed to be a jumpshooting team? I know Rip and Chauncey didn't play much - but if they're not in the game or are having off nights, we're in trouble, particularly against a zone defense like we saw last night.

Earl Boykins created havoc for us in the open court - knocking the ball away from us. I'd obviously rather have him than Blaylock and Lindsay. We'll have to depend a lot on Lindsay again this year.

Amir got pushed a around in his first appearance. Played with more "force" in the second half. Was desprately trying to gage his height against other players, but struggled to form a conclusion. He seemed as tall as Jamal Sampson of the Nuggets and he's listed on Hoopshype at 6'11''.

Maxiell is what he is. He was reasonably productive last night, but I'd like to see how he does against a bigger team. Denver isn't very big up front.

Same old frustrations with Defino. He handles himself on the court well, but doesn't put the ball in the basket. He couldn't even make his free throws. Why can't he make free throws?

Dysse just isn't a particulary good defender. He knocked down some shots, though.

Dupree seems to be effective in his limited role. I like having him on the roster.

Liked what I saw from Nazr. He has a presence around the rim. He rebounds and keeps loose balls alive around the rim. And he can actually score in the post.

Didn't notice much impact from Flip Murray. They seemed to be trying him out at point guard. I suppose he did resonably well.

Rip Hamilton is a nice player.

The team didn't appear to be having much fun.

During timeouts, Flip and his assistants would huddle at the free throw line before Flip addressed the team. Flip really looks small standing with those assistants. I wonder if he's got a strong enough personality to command the respect of his assistants - not to mention the guys on they team.

dice blocked several shots and knocked down some j's with his slow self. it's preseason dice is just starting to get into the flow. he's started off slow every year. we never should have traded arroyo.
