Anyway, I hope Delfino's "shooting slump" that has seemingly lasted multiple seasons ends soon. Unfortunately, I didn't watch the game, but his consistently poor field goal percentage is begiinning to erk me a bit.
it's not crazy to think that delfino just chooses bad times to shoot. if he was a volume shooter like arenas he would put up 20 points a game. delfino usually shoots with the clock running down or there are no passing options. kinda like when you jump to pass it usually ends up being a bad pass. delfino shoots a bad percentage but he gets everybody else on the floor high percentage shots.

the jumper will start falling. it's just preseason that's what it's here for.

What small forwards/guards in the NBA can't put up 20 points given Arenas's volume of shots. I would agree with you that shot selection is important, but if you choose bad times to shoot and when you do shoot it you often miss, isn't that the definition of a bad shooter?

i wonder about the cause of Delfino's bad shot selection. last year, remember, he seemed to have the feeling that you had to shoot (i.e. Delk) a lot when on the court to get minutes in Flip's system. now this year he has the minutes, but I'm sure he's relatively low on the options list in their offensive sets. so perhaps he winds up open with the ball at the end of possessions and is sort of schizoid about whether to shoot or not (i.e. his lingering sense that he must shoot to play makes him shoot, while his sense that he's got the minutes and isn't a high option makes him not want to shoot). if so, that sort of mental thing would definitely add poor results to already poor selection. just a thought.

delfino will play better when there's a couple starters in the game and not 5 bench guys. he shouldn't feel pressured to score and can instead focus on the things he does well.

I buy that professor. Its just that in watching the talent that doesn't ever make it to the NBA, I thought that shot selection and the ability to make shots under intense pressure were some of the qualities that seperated the elite from the wannabees. (at least as it pertains to players who are not strictly defensive specialists) He needs to start nailing those jumpers. Missing free throws is not helping his case either. He doesn't need to give Flip any more incentive to underutilize the bench.

agree 100 %. i intended it as a possible explanation, certainly not as an excuse.

Betweening typing in chat and trying to take the game in, it's hard to catch nuances. If it was a better game, I would probably watch it again.

Delk is playing in Europe this season.
