SAGINAW -- Saginaw High basketball standout Draymond Green decided Thursday to go green as he verbally committed to Tom Izzo and Michigan State.
"I had to go with my heart and what it was telling me," said Green, during a news conference in the high school's gymnasium. "(The decision) was about me being able to fit in with the players, the school and everything. It's a great school and a great place to be."
Green, a 6-foot-7, 230-pounder, is considered by recruiting services Rivals.com and Scout.com as a top 100 recruit for the class of 2008.
Green averaged 22.5 points a game last season for the Class A state champion Trojans.
The earliest Green can sign a national letter of intent with MSU is early November.
Green originally committed to Kentucky but backed out of that promise after Tubby Smith left Lexington to take the University of Minnesota coaching position.
Other schools in the running for Green were Michigan and Indiana. Michigan is believed to have been Green's second choice.

Re: Top basketball recruit picks MSU

Not to dog a 'fellow' spartan but he's not that big of a recruit (rankings wise).

But I think he'll be a great "guts and glue" guy like Ben was for the Stones or Antonio Smith was for MSU back in the day.

He's probably shy of 6'6" right now and isn't real athletic, but he is damn tough and strong. Hopefully he grows a little and loses some baby fat because he's got a motor and can ball.
