All puff pieces today kids..

[NY Times]

PHILIPPEThis Upper East Side Chinese spot is to open a 350-seat restaurant in Mexico City next month, in partnership with a Mexican restaurateur, Pablo Moctezuma. The move is part of a bigger expansion plan, financed by a group of National Basketball Association stars. The next planned opening will be in the Hotel Gansevoort South in Miami Beach in January. The investors include Sebastian Telfair of the Boston Celtics, Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess of the Detroit Pistons, Tyronn Lue and Al Harrington of the Atlanta Hawks and Stromile Swift of the Memphis Grizzlies.

"We were really hot for that game because we had got into a big fight over there," Tresvant recalled. "A guy kept elbowing me and my teammate, Greg Vermillion, punched him in the face, the police came and it really got out of hand."

He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks and, in order, later played for the Detroit Pistons, Cincinnati Royals, Sonics, Los Angeles Lakers and Baltimore Bullets, advancing to the NBA Finals with the latter two teams. His career ended after he tore up his knee in a collision with 7-footer Tom Payne during an exhibition game. He has since had two knee replacements.

“We were hanging in there in regulation leading by 4, 5 points and we’re all right,” said Uichico.

But Uichico said the Koreans were good and the Kings couldn’t stop the SK Knights’ imports—6’10” Kebu Omar Stewart and former Detroit Pistons’ second-round draft choice and All-American 6’7” power forward Lou Roe.

Roe finished with 37 points and Stewart had 18.

Re: August 2006 Pistons Articles

A brief sports roundup in the St. Paul Pioneer Press makes the following claim:

Quote:
Look for ex-Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders to hire ex-Wolves guard Terry Porter, and, if he can get out of his $300,000 WNBA deal, ex-Celtics player and coach Dave Cowens as assistants for the Detroit Pistons.
No author is specified, and I couldn't finding anything else about the rumor except that it's mentioned on hoopshype. Take this with a a big grain of salt, given that this article ran today, and Porter's hiring was officially announced four days ago.

Cowens is currently head coach of the Chicago Sky.
