November 24th ~ Happy Thanksgiving! The Detroit news ~ Pistons get back to winning ways Seven players score in double figures, team gets 36 assists. AP The Detroit Pistons didn't stay in a slump for long. In the first game since their undefeated start ended with an embarrassing 37-point loss in Dallas, the Pistons got 19 points from Richard Hamilton and snapped the Denver Nuggets' four-game winning streak with a 114-89 victory Wednesday night. The Detroit Free Press ~ Pistons pound Denver, 114-89 Nuggets, Anthony never get going By Krista Latham Ah, to be home again. The Pistons, freshened up from a tough travel schedule, toyed with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, winning 114-89 at the Palace. They're now an NBA-best 9-1. They looked good getting there, too. Thirty-three assists on 43 baskets. A renewed commitment to defense that led to 12 blocks and 49 assists. Seven players scoring in double digits. Ben Wallace goes on tear from the line by Krista Latham Pistons center Ben Wallace had 13 points in Wednesday night's victory over the Denver Nuggets, but seven came in surprising fashion -- on free throws. Wallace, a career .422 free throw shooter, had a .571 percentage this season heading into Wednesday's game. Then he hit six free throws in a row and went 7-for-8 against the Nuggets. Booth Newspapers ~ After strong start on road, Pistons ready for back-to-back home games By A. Sherrod Blakely The Detroit Pistons were to wear their new-look red road jerseys for Wednesday night's game against the Denver Nuggets at The Palace. It was a fitting jersey choice considering the Pistons' season thus far has seemed like one big road trip. Following Wednesday's game, the Pistons will play against the Washington Wizards on Friday. It will be the Pistons' first back-to-back home games this season. No other NBA team this season has gone this long without back-to-back home games. The Denver Post ~ No mo in Motown Denver has bad night in Detroit By Marc J. Spears Maybe the Nuggets were tired from playing a night earlier in the nation's capital. Maybe they were thinking ahead to today's Thanksgiving feast of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Maybe there is a hex on them in Detroit. Whatever it was, the Nuggets basically played their worst basketball of the season Wednesday in a 114-89 blowout loss to the Detroit Pistons at the Palace at Auburn Hills. Rocky Mountain News ~ Nothing cool in this whip Nuggets feel all of Pistons' fury as win streak ends at four By Aaron J. Lopez The Denver Nuggets were hoping for a sneak attack. Instead, they got ambushed. With three days to think about a humbling 37-point loss - it was their only loss this season - the Detroit Pistons took out their pent-up anger on the Nuggets at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

November 24 (cont..) The Oakland press ~ Nuggets' Anthony is improving by Dana Gauruder Carmelo Anthony will always be linked to a question that will never be answered. As in, What if the Pistons had drafted Anthony instead of Darko Milicic?' The Pistons won a championship without Anthony and nearly won another, but Anthony unquestionably has been more productive in his career than Milicic. Detroit had its reasons to pass on Anthony after he led Syracuse to a national championship as a freshman. They already had a promising small forward in Tayshaun Prince, whose all-around skills are a better fit with the rest of the starters than the offensive-minded Anthony.

November 25th The Detroit news ~ Shared offense delivers results Billups' 11 assists lead team to a league-high 36 on 43 baskets in victory against Denver. By Chris McCosky The Pistons' offense has been so efficient, so potent, it almost seems too good to be true -- like some kind of mirage. "That's always going to be there," Chauncey Billups assured. "We are going to get shots from whoever we want, whenever we want them. We got some great shooters, guys that can really knock them down. That's never going to be our concern." Heart problem puts Rebraca out for now Irregular heartbeat costs Clippers backup center; he had same problem with Pistons. Los Angeles Clippers backup center Zeljko Rebraca, a former Piston, has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and is out indefinitely, the team said Thursday. The diagnosis was made following the Clippers' 103-100 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. The Detroit Free Press ~ Billups has reasons for All-Star snub by Krista Latham Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups always looks forward to playing Washington. It means he gets to go head-to-head with point guard Gilbert Arenas, a rising star who garnered his first All-Star nod last year while Billups stayed home. Don't get him wrong -- Billups isn't bitter. He has achieved his greatest dream of winning a championship. But a trip to Houston this season for the All-Star festivities would sit well with the player who has driven the Pistons to two straight Finals. Booth Newspapers ~ Billups believes team-first mentality has stymied all-star chances By A. Sherrod Blakely Pistons shooting guard Richard Hamilton said it's "crazy" that neither he nor Billups has been named an all-star. "The things we have done, especially the last couple of years . . ." Hamilton said. "You can't take anything away from those guys (other all-star players). They deserve it. Hopefully, we continue to win games and try and win a championship." The Washington Post ~ Jordan Seeks Button To Restart Wizards By Ivan Carter As the Wizards prepare for tonight's daunting task of trying to break out of their funk against the team with the best record in the NBA, the Detroit Pistons, one thing is obvious: Jordan's team desperately needs a win. Detroit is 9-1, owns a 12-game winning steak over Washington and has a trio of former Bullets/Wizards in Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and Richard Hamilton who would not mind adding to their former team's miseries.

Tater Interesting thing in that story was the comment about Brown "holding them back." I think most would agree that Brown was a bit of a control freak. I'm enjoying the free-wheeling system so far. Stephen A. Smith also commented a week or so ago that Detroit was playing a lot more freely and not as worried about the coach's wrath. I guess Flip treats 'em like men and not like little boys.

I agree and noticed that too, but every time that Brown stuff is mentioned, all hell breaks loose in this place. lmao. ![]() ![]() |

The true test will be in the playoffs when we'll play more disciplined teams... the number of possesions will be reduced while the importance of each possesion will increase. Certainly can not question the better looks we're getting. I was impressed with Tay coming forward and asking for accountability on man defense... it was like challanging them not to forget the defensive responsibilty that LB demanded. I hope the forum has matured to the point that we give credit to Larry for the attention to detail he brought and still accept his critisism for his stagnant ways... and that Darko has many faults while still having a substantial upside.

November 26th The Detroit News ~ Atkins helps Wizards put away Pistons in double OT Washington guard scores 12 of his 20 points in fourth quarter. AP A former Detroit Pistons player gave the Washington Wizards the boost they needed. Chucky Atkins, traded shortly before Detroit won the 2004 NBA championship, came off the bench to score 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter Friday night in the Wizards' 120-114 double-overtime victory over the Pistons. The Detroit Free Press ~ Wizards bedevil Pistons, 120-114 Detroit handed first home loss in 2 OTs By Krista Lathem Ben Wallace had his chance to win it. So did Rasheed Wallace. And Chauncey Billups, Mr. Big Shot himself, had a chance, as well. But the biggest shots didn't fall for the Pistons, and they lost, 120-114, to the Washington Wizards in double overtime at the Palace on Friday night. Atkins lands with Wizards this time By Krista Lathem If a big NBA trade went down in the last three seasons, there was a good chance Chucky Atkins' name appeared in the fine print. In the 2003-04 championship year, the Pistons let the point guard go to Boston in a three-team deal that landed Detroit its missing piece in Rasheed Wallace. After half a season in Boston, the Celtics shipped Atkins to the Lakers in a package that brought them Rick Fox and Gary Payton. And this past summer, the Lakers said good-bye to Atkins, sending him to Washington in a trade that involved bigger names like Kwame Brown and Caron Butler. Booth Newspapers ~ Pistons run into familiar face in OT loss to Wizards By A. Sherrod Blakely The Detroit Pistons have spoken many times about playing with a certain swagger down the stretch in tight games. But on Friday night against the Washington Wizards, they needed something even more valuable: defensive stops and shots made. Detroit fell short on both fronts, as the Wizards were able to hold on for a 120-114 double overtime win over the Pistons. The Oakland Press ~ Atkins relegated to bench in D.C. By Dana Gauruder Chucky Atkins' bumpy career has hit another valley. Atkins, one of the Pistons' point guards for 3 /2 seasons, has gone from a starter with the Lakers last season to an afterthought on Washington's bench. Atkins is averaging just 14.2 minutes with Washington and did not get off the bench in one game. "Am I surprised? I'm not really surprised," said Atkins, who averaged 13.6 points and 4.4 assists playing alongside Kobe Bryant last season. "I've bounced around, and Chauncey (Billups) did the same thing. The difference is, every year it seems like I've had a good season, I've been moved. I thought I had a pretty decent season last year in L.A. and put up some career highs in different things, but unfortunately for myself, I was on the move again." The Washington Post ~ Wizards Win in Double Overtime Arenas Scores 39, Washington Ends Five-Game Skid: Wizards 120, Pistons 114 By Ivan Carter Inside the visiting locker room at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday night, the pregame message for the Washington Wizards was as simple as your traditional Thanksgiving spread. "We've got to have it," explained forward Caron Butler. "Anyway, anyhow. We're going to win this basketball game." Butler didn't know it at the time, but he and the Wizards (6-6) would indeed go to extremes on their way to knocking off the defending Eastern Conference champion Detroit Pistons -- a team that came into the game with the NBA's best record, an unblemished mark at home and 10 straight wins over the Wizards.
