We might have to look a little closer at Acker. Just going off memory but I don't think we can give him a qualifying offer if he signed a one year contract. I believe the assumption is that you own bird rights (early or full).

Re: Pistons Payroll 2006 : Part 1

Restricted free agency is available if a player is NOT a 1st round pick, AND has 3 or less seasons in the "L".

Acker is NON BIRD. 120%.

He also falls under the Gilbert Arenas/Mehmet Okur provision.

Ok, Ima gonna stick the neck out once more... without looking at Coon's latest... I'm pretty sure that all teams are now allowed to share in the lux tax proceeds (used to be only teams under hard cap).

Re: Pistons Payroll 2006 : Part 1

Perhaps this is clearer. I've made some small tweaks to my description.

Quote:
Escrow money:
  • Some or all of the escrow money may be reserved for "league purposes." This is likely to be a small percentage of the total escrow amount, but there is no cap on the amount that is used for league purposes -- the league could, at their discretion, use all of it.
  • Any remaining escrow money that is distributed to teams must go to all teams in equal shares.
Tax money:
  • Teams under the tax level receive a full share (1/30) of the tax money. (Note that if the league expands, the fraction changes.)
  • Some or all of the remaining money may be reserved by the league for "league purposes."
  • Any remaining tax money that is distributed to teams must go to all teams in equal shares.

Re: Pistons Payroll 2006 : Part 1

I was curious about how this related to total Revenue and how much Davison is actually making.

According to Forbes. For 2004/05 the Pistons Revenue was listed at $134mil. $45mil of that was ticket sales and after expenses the team neted a $25mil profit. There was a slight increase in ticket sales for 05/06 and they put in more boxes so for 06 I would estimate a 5-10mil increase in Ticket revenue.

Davison has a net worth of $3.5bil. Not exactly Paul Allen money (25bil) but it blows the famed Marc Cuban out of the water with his 1.8bil net worth.

Here's some fuzzy math.
Say there is 15 teams over the cap a total of $30 mil.
If every team gets $1mil. from that fund. If you were over $1mil. it would be a nul.

It's not so much how much you have to pay if you're over but how much you lose in not receiving the tax distribution.

I was only partially correct with the new CBA, in that part of the escrow may be distributed to all teams instead of the bigger pie (tax penalties)... in the previous year that distribution was close to 18M per team under the tax.... hardly chump change.

Re: Pistons Payroll 2006 : Part 1

Merc, is all that profit? Can that be used next year on players?
18mil. x 30 = total Lux penalty $540mil.
Every team shares even the contributers/penalized?

Re: Pistons Payroll 2006 : Part 1

I have been looking at realgm today and some of my trades have been stopped by this little beauty.

LAST = Last Non-Exercisable Year. Players in the last non-exercisable year of their contract cannot be traded after the trade deadline when teams can once again trade players after their season is over

Can someone explain this please? the wording sucks.
