| Yzerman heating up for the stretch run In case anyone missed it, Stevie Y passed Le Magnifique on the All-Time goal scorers list. http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/natio...man060331.html Steve will always be Detroit Hockey for me. One of the toughest, most skilled players ever to grace the league. The Wings lucked out taking him with the 4th overall pick in '83. The 3 guys taken ahead of him were Brian Lawton, Sylvain Turgeon and Pat Lafontaine. Of those 3, the only one who came close to his excellence was Lafontaine, but concussions cut his career short. A little trivia. Pat Lafonataine and Steve Yzerman both won the same trophy during their careers. Which one was it?

Masterson Trophy is the one they have both won. I think we owe a lot of what Yzerman is to Scotty Bowman. Or, Yzerman sort of owes his Stanley Cups to Bowman... Bowman forced Yzerman to play a complete game, when he was primarily a goal scorer. But yeah, it is very nice to see Yzerman picking it up for the playoffs... in what will probably be his final season. |
