I read that the press conference was scheduled, and when I went to my cable guide it said "Darts".

FSN is doing a great job, on cable here is says darts until 2 and then inside poker. They will probably just show those shows tomorrow or a different time. Yzerman is way more important than poker.

I love darts. They are showing it on TV? I should have Tivo'd that.

I just wished he would go out on a more positive note (winning the stanley cup) then retiring. I'm sure other teams were kicking themselves by not drafting him first, instead of getting drafted 4th.

Unfortunately, Ben Wallace leaving has taken some of the spotlight off of where it really belongs: On Stevie Y. This guy epitomizes Detroit in much the way Al Kaline did. Yzerman is a hero, plain and simple. I'm not even a huge hockey fan and this guy is my favorite Detroit athlete, and probably always will be. He retired here in Detroit, too, so he has one-upped Ben Wallace in my mind. A good one from Mitch Albom:

Ben Wallace can't hold a candle to Yzerman.

Ben was in 3rd or 4th grade when Yzerman was drafted by the Wings.

Anyone who has followed Detroit sports at all should be doing what I've been doing:

Pretend like Ben was a spoiled step-brother who acted up and got what he wanted, while Yzerman is the "elder" that you shoud respect.

The difference is that the Wings rarely lost a good player over money. While Bill D. has been for the most part very successful since 1986, The Illitches are the best team owners in Detroit.

First class people who don't have fickle personal demands or loyalties that change faster than the weather.
