Re: A few Wings signings

DETROIT Pat Verbeek was hired Thursday to be a pro scout for the Detroit Red Wings. He played for Detroit, New Jersey, Hartford, the New York Rangers and Dallas during his 21-year career and had a combined one-thousand-63 points.
Verbeek will help the Red Wings evaluate talent in both the N-H-L and American Hockey League, and will assist the coaching staff as it prepares for teams he has scouted.

Re: A few Wings signings

I always liked Verbeek's game. He was an intelligent gritty player.

The Wings might be salary hampered with the roster under the new CBA, but having wealthy ownership means we can buy the best front office and scouting staff anywhere...

YEah, and the other good thing is that it gets Verbeek out of the broadcast booth. His voice is more nasily than a country music singer.

Trade: The Detroit Red Wings traded goaltender Drew MacIntyre to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2007 NHL draft.
MacIntyre was drafted by Detroit in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2002 draft.

That makes sense. They had 3 goalies sharing time in Grand Rapids last season, and now they're talking about bringing in that Swedish guy (Liv).

Conditional pick meaning... as long as it's not too good, they get it (ala the Darko trade)?

Re: A few Wings signings

The Detroit Red Wings signed general manager Ken Holland and assistant general manager Jim Nill to contract extensions Friday, keeping both in the team's front office through the 2010-11 season.

Re: A few Wings signings

Most important signings for the franchise!

The nice thing is that the Wings are rich and have an owner with deeper pockets. They can spend as much as they want on scouts and front office staff.

Good job Wings!
