Wings Bring Back Greg Johnson

The wings have brought back Greg Johnson, who played with them from 1993-1997.

They are expecting he'll center the 4th line.

Here's the rest of the story.

I guess the bottom line is he provides some veteran depth without hurting the bottom line much ($500,000).

I just hope the young guys (Flippula, Hudler, Kopecky) can play their way into playing time, and the organization doesn't choose to stick with veteran players, just for the sake of them being veterans.

Sounds like they took a page out of the Pistons book. Hire some old guy for cheap.

Re: Wings Bring Back Greg Johnson

We signed him to a one year contract, good thing because he's already 35.
Also, the wings still haven't re-signed Johan Franzen. It seems all their talks have stalled over the length of contract.

Franzen is a RFA, so I think the deal will get done, it is just a matter of time.

I don't know if I even remember Greg Johnson.

Former Wing signed with Blues:
Defenseman Jamie Rivers, who played for St. Louis from 1995-99, signed a free-agent deal with the Blues on Friday. The 31-year-old Rivers played for the Red Wings and Coyotes last season, appearing in 33 games with six assists and 38 penalty minutes.

I think that will become the way of the new capped NHL. A hand full of top end talent and then fill the rest of the roster with kids and crap.

Especially with the rediculous size of the arbitration awards this summer. The NHL "middle class" is shrinking to the point of extinction, like the role of the enforcer.
