Franzen: Holmstrom's Understudy

From the Free Press:

For nine seasons the Red Wings have had a Swedish demolition man, a tireless stalwart who has hovered in front of nets and incensed enemy goaltenders.

Now they have two.

Holmstrom is one of the only guys in the league who does what he does. I remember a few years ago, Holmstrom was out with an injury and Dave Lewis wanted someone else to do "what Homer does". And, reportedly, all of the players laughed at him, because none of them were willing to do it, because "no one else does that."

If Franzen can keep doing it, that could be an awesome thing... having two guys willing to stand right in the goalie's way.

Holmstrom will have to help him with his equipment selections though. Homer wears shin pads on the front and back of his legs, and an extra thick back pad, because goalies always whack the heck out of him when they can.

Re: Franzen: Holmstrom's Understudy

Homer is one of my favorite Wings. He's the garbageman.
