Re: Red Wings News from DetroitHockey.net

The Wings are on a role. In there winning streak, there has been a lot of low scoring games and good defense. Hopefully they can keep it up.

RSS Red Wings Tie Team Record with Ninth-Straight Win

The Detroit Red Wings tied a franchise record Tuesday night, extending their winning streak to nine games with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Johan Franzen's shorthanded goal at 6:19 of the third period gave Detroit the win.

The Red Wings got on the board first at 4:36 of the second period, when Valtteri Filppula carried the puck out from behind the net and turned to put a shot on Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo. Luongo lost his stick and was disoriented as the puck bounced off defender Patrick Coulombe and into the net.

The Detroit Red Wings failed to set a new franchise record for consecutive wins Friday night, falling to the Calgary Flames, 4-1.

Had the Red Wings won, it would have been their tenth victory in a row, a feat unmatched in the team's history. They have won nine-straight games six times, including once last season.

Edmonton had a late 3-2 lead but Jiri Hudler tied the game with just over three seconds remaining in regulation, deflecting a shot from the right circle by Dan Cleary past Edmonton goalie Dwayne Roloson.
