| Meet the Wings: Jason Williams On a team loaded with offensive fire power, up to this point in the season (11/5/2005), the Wings’ point leader is an unlikely source. 5’11”, 185 Lbs ~ Jason Williams. Right Wing/Center. Williams played in a career total of 95 NHL games, since signing with Detroit in 2000. He’s tallied a total of 17 goals, and 15 assists in those games, while bouncing down to the AHL, and back. During the lockout, Williams played in Finland, and has said that it was great boost in his confidence to get minutes on the first two lines, whereas in previous seasons with the Red Wings, he was primarily a fourth line player. That must have been quite a boost of confidence. Williams impressed new Wings coach Mike Babcock so much that Williams has been on the second line with Robert Lang and Brendan Shanahan. He has also seen considerable time as a member of the first Power Play unit. And credit Wings’ management again here, Williams is making $450,000 a season, compared to his lines mates Shanahan ($2,280,000) and Lang ($3,800,000). Now to get the numbers for this season so far: In 14 games, he has 5 goals, 13 assists, is +2, 3 Power Play goals, and 1 Game Winning Goal. In 14 games this season, he has already surpassed his numbers from 49 games in the 2003-2004 season.
