| An interview with Scotty Bowman Bowman just keeps going Quote:
Five years have passed since Scotty Bowman mouthed "I'm done" as he hoisted the Stanley Cup after guiding the Red Wings to the 2002 NHL title. Bowman spent three decades coaching, going from the St. Louis Blues to the Montreal Canadiens to the Buffalo Sabres to the Pittsburgh Penguins to Detroit, and winning a record nine Stanley Cup championships.
Bowman immediately assumed a new role as consultant to the Wings, a position that embedded him in the inner circle with vice president Jimmy Devellano, general manager Ken Holland, head coach Mike Babcock and, as of last year, the newest vice president, Steve Yzerman. It's a job that has kept Bowman busier than expected. He travels a great deal -- he has already been to Russia twice in the past year, and may go again later this summer at the behest of former assistant Barry Smith -- but Bowman also has been able to spend much more time visiting his family.
