-----> 2008 FANTASY HOCKEY <-----

With all this basketball and football talk, I thought I should get the hockey talk started. Particularly with all the exciting things going on with the Red Wings (and Lightning, lol).

Do we even have a commissioner for hockey yet? I know we threw a lot of stuff around. Here is my wish list:

Head to head

Ten teams

Live draft

Weekly (not daily) lineups (but extra positions play every day)

So every day you can potentially play:

2 goalies

3 Centers

5 Wings

1 flex (utility)

3 Defenseman

also:

3 bench

1 IR

Now remember, teams only play about 3 or 4 times per week max, so most days you won't be able to play all these guys).

We wouldn't need to limit roster moves because you can't stream (Tater) in a weekly setting.

Roscoe is banned from joining (negotiable)

Jammer is banned from joining (non-negotiable)

It's not quite time to set it up yet, but we are getting close.

Categories:

Goals, Assists, Power play goals, Power play assists, Game winning goals (yes, it's back), Short handed goals, short handed assists,
face offs won,

Wins, Goals against, Save pct, Shut outs.

Maybe losses and penalty minutes ? (negotiable)

I'm willing to be commissioner, but if so, I really am going to want these settings. If someone else wants to do it and make their own settings that's cool with me...I'll support you fully.

Thoughts? Anyone interested?

I like it, except I'm kind of lukewarm to the weekly lineup changes.

I felt exactly the same way about weekly lineups until I tried it in baseball. I really love it now. People can't stream. You also don't agonize daily over who to put in there so you only need to mess with your lineup once a week. Early week injuries are a pain, but generally, they really don't affect you that much in the end.

Re: -----> 2008 FANTASY HOCKEY <-----

I fell in love with weekly as well. At first I wasn't a fan, but now it is a REAL time saver and doesn't put you at a disadvantage if you can't check your lineup every five minutes (Tater) it also eliminates Tatering (Tater, Mikhail, etc.), which I HATE!!!!

I'm in a daily baseball league as well as the weekly PF.com baseball league and let me tell you, there's a HUGE difference - especially for baseball, where you have to constantly be aware of when your SP is scheduled to pitch. This applies to a lesser extent to hockey as well for goalies.

I'm fine with all of the settings (except for the part about me being banned ), but I'll add my 2 cents anyway.

I'm not a big fan of PIMs, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if they were included. I can appreciate the fact that they add a bit more strategy to things, but to me, they're a 100% negative stat. If included at all, they should be considered a negative (just like Ks for a batter in baseball).

Five active wingers, 3 Cs, 1 util and 3 bench spot seems like a lot to me. Depending on the # of teams, the FA pickings might be slim should an injury arise. It'll make drafting that much more important (ok for teams that do well, but not so good for managers that aren't able to attend the draft).

My suggestion would be to remove 1 of the winger spots and add a 2nd IR spot. C's are deep so 3 shouldn't be an issue. I think 3 D is a good #. If teams want more, they can use a bench spot.

Tater has my vote for commish.

I really would like to do the weekly. Mikhail are you ok with it? Anyone else?

I already told you...NOT NEGOTIABLE!!!!

I think you're right. I think it's kinda dumb too. OK, no penalty minutes. I guess goalie losses is overkill too.

I think you're right on the wingers. 4 instead of 5. The util can be the extra winger, but I think maybe one more bench instead of another IR. I think one is good.

Tater has my vote for commish.

Uggh.

Please keep the feedback coming. I think we are making progress.

I agree with almost everything. I like the weekly lineups. I don't think we should have the penalty minutes. Everything else sounds good...

Yeah, you're right. I like the idea of an extra bench spot over a 2nd IR.

If it was a keeper league, I'd say go with the 2nd IR, since you don't want to drop your top player who's out for the rest of the year with an injury, but you also don't want it to handcuff your current season.

K, so we have:

Live draft

Weekly (not daily) lineups

2 goalies

3 Centers

4 Wings

1 flex (utility)

3 Defenseman

also:

4 bench

1 IR

Jammer is banned from joining (non-negotiable)

Goals, Assists, Power play goals, Power play assists, Game winning goals , Short handed goals, short handed assists, face offs won,

Wins, Goals against, Save pct, Shut outs.

I'm really comfortable with these settings. We'll see what the others have to say.

If everyone is up for weekly, it's fine with me. It's not my preference, but I have nothing against it.

I'm partial to PIM. Need to think the rest over. Bans sound good too.
