I was watching the Wizards/Boston pre-game show last evening. Arenas claims he has it out for the coaches who did not vote for him as an all-star. He mentioned their next three upcoming games as a motivating factor for him because he knows personally that these coaches did not vote him in.

Secondly, he is pissed that he only played nine minutes in the all-star game. He claims that he will redeem himself against the pistons and make the pistons pay for whatever.

It appears that Gilbert needs some kind of way to validate and will himself to win and shoot 5 million shots per game.

I will be at the game on Saturday night. I hope our boys read about Gil shooting his mouth off and take him back to school on saturday night.

Arenas has a back story that reads like one destined to be a Piston.

He was told by his highschool coach that he had ZERO chance to make the varsity team?

Go figure.

Most major universites passed on him thinking that he did not have what it took to compete at the college level.

Whoops.

Arenas dropped all the way to the second round of the draft after initialing thinking he would be a top 10 prospect.

Whoops again.

After a successful collegiate season, becoming the first player in his draft class to make the ALLSTAR team, and winning the respect of his NBA peers...it is safe to say that he has more than exceeded expectations.

He loves to play with a chip on his shoulder. I wouldn't take his comments to seriously. He is a competitor. Rather Pistons like, don't you think? :)

Arenas is not a team player, he is very concentrated on his own individual goals and accomplishments. Eddie Jordan has pretty much given him the green light to shoot as much as he likes.

This area is the chief complaint amongst all wizards fans; his inability or refusal to get his teamates involved in the offense. So many times, Haywood/Michael Ruffin/Jeffries and others are wide open, instead of passing to these players in the low block he shoots the ball.

I really do not consider Arenas that great of a player, if I was shooting 190,000 shots per night, I could also be #3 in the league in scoring.

If you were to look up shoot first point guard in the Webster's dictionary of basketball terminolgy, you would find a small picture of Gil Arenas.:frusty:

Arenas' big problem is that he is all about himself. His comments are immature and pathetic. He's so blinded by what he considers "personal disrespect" that he lets it cloud his judgement. His comments are not those of a "team player".

I never liked this clown. Poor man's AI.

Well well well Mr. Gilbert of the Arenas. You shot your mouth off and got over on the Big Bad Pistons. I like that Gilbert. It's part of the thrill of the chase. Talk smack and back it up, it aint smack, it's the truth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
But the Pistons are all about the KILL.That means shuting your season down in the playoffs. That's a kill. Your gonna get kilt in the playoffs Gilbert. Can you stoke up your teammates to win a best of seven in the NBA Playoffs, Gilbert?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Your name kinda has a gladiator sound to it. Gilbert of the Arenas. Like you were born to compete in the arenas. Unfortunately you are
Gilbertof the arenas. What is a Gilbert? I aint a "Thor" or even a "Victor". I think it's a "dork".
My name is....

Gotta give him credit. He did do a really nice job of backing up the talk.

BUT

The "holstering of his twin six guns" folowing his last basket ought to have earned him one or two knockdowns the next time we play.

Can somebody please tell me what is wrong with this man? Am I the only person who think he is a nut-case? An arrogant some-kind-of-a-person? Now, I have heard a few poster talk about Kobe; but Kobe is not as bad as Arenas. And I'm a Kobe-hater.
I know this "King" mania is probably getting to him, but dang! Going into the Cav's locker and acting foolish is just too much. I know they say he was joking, but most likely, he wasn't. Didn't he get pissed at ALL of the Eastern Conference coaches for not voting for him for the All-Star Team? Wasn't he pissed at Flip for only playing him 11 minutes in the All-Star game? That's why he went off on the Pistons in D.C. in March. Payback. So expect him to have a very superb night tonight. One thing I can say about him, he sure can shoot. Crazy.

Yes, he is a nutcase and a very selfish one at that. But once he gets it going he is a scoring machine.

On my way home today listening to sportstalk radio, the talk was about Mr. Arenas visiting the Cav`s locker room after Lebron`s escort to the hoop with 3.5 seconds left in OT the other night.

Story has it he wanted to holler at his ex-teammate Larry Hughes.

WTF?

A beat sportswriter for the Washington Post explained to John Thompson (it was J Thompson`s show) that`s just how Gilbert is!

This is the playoffs, Im not saying they can`t socialize, but can`t it wait until you take a shower?

I could tell several of the stupid episodes involving Arenas since he has been a Wizard, but I wont, he is not worth it.

I saw a halftime special on Gilbert a few weeks ago. He has "adopted" this little kid who lost his whole family in a house fire in DC. He seems to really be doing some cool stuff for the kid, taking him to games, hanging out with him, commiting to pay for his college, etc. All very nice stuff, for sure.

But during the piece, he kept reffering to this kid as "the chosen one" and talking about how lucky the kid was to be spending all this time with Gilbert Arenas. I kept waiting for someone to remind Gilbert that this kids "dream come true" was because he lost his entire family in a fire.

Wierd. It seemed like his heart was in the right place, though. Just really, really arrogant.

I couldn't find any other Gilbert Arenas threads and I looked back to December. Perhaps they are lost in one of these other teams/other series threads.

Anyway, did anyone notice that LeBron James actually went up to Gilbert Arenas and talked to him during his free-throw shooting at the very end of that game. He approached him at the free throw line twice. I may not have the sequence exactly right, but I think it was actually
before the 1st and before the 2nd. He missed both. I don't think I was hallucinating, but WTF?

What is he doing approaching and talking to Arenas before he shoots his free throws when the game is on the line? Man oh man. Since the NBA is so rules crazy maybe they should add some kind of free throw restraining order type rule. You know like an opposing player can't come within ten feet of a player shooting a free throw. Just kidding.

But seriously, I would really think that would mess up a guys concentration. I don't know what he said each time, but I wouldn't overlook the possibility that whatever it was unnerved Arenas. Even
if what he said was pseudo-supportive, just the fact that he did it would be unnerving. LeBron may be a master psychological chess player in addition to his other talents. Yikes.

I'm pretty sure there was a thread talking about Arenas's anger at Flip for not playing him alot of minutes in the all-star game. That's about all I can remember though.

Anyway, I know whats RIGHT with Gilbert!

That last second shot to put last night's game in overtime was AMAZING!

...and then he misses the free throws. lmao!

Arenas is definitely a talent...even with his tendency to hunt a little too vigorously for in game motivation.

On being a practical joker (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/players/04/18/first.person0424/index.html)
It drives some guys crazy, but I love it. One of my favorites was sneaking up on my teammate Awvee Storey. He has a bad attitude, and I just have to try and get him to smile. One day he was on the toilet reading the paper, and I snuck in with a water hose, turned it on him and sprayed him for, like, three minutes. He had all his clothes on, and he got soaked. It was hilarious. But for some reason he still wasn't laughing.

TNT just interviewed LeBron about it and he answered my question. He said "If you miss both of those free throws, the game's over and you're going home." !!! And after he said it, he kinda tapped him on the upper chest. He touched him! I'll tell you if he trys that with any of our guys. Man oh man. But Charles on TNT said he once said "You coudn't hit those free throws with a needle up your @#$" to a guy on the free throw line. I find it kind of amazing that that wouldn't incite a riot with a game on the line.

Well, well, our freind Gilbert Arenas doesn`t know how to shut up. Everything that comes out of his mouth lately is rubbish.

The B-ball talk on the radio today (here in the DC area) consisted of some comments Arenas made about the US National Team.

Mr. selfish himself says he believes that coach K had his team picked already, implying he was never part of it!! Then in the next breath says, he can`t wait for the olympic tryouts in 2008.

What an idiot............Very talented bit has the personality of a paranoid, egotistical punk..........

HEY HATERS, hey what u want Tracey Murray back now???? Sure TMurray once guaranteed 9 and scored 50. and used to sleep in a Low-altitude tent (he had the stamina of an old Bangladeshi Madam!) but hes not coming back, he loves his job selling coronas on brighton beach. In Russian they have 10 words for 'Respect!'

Juan Dixon and his T-Cells thrashed the Wiz and suddenyl the media is saying the seasons lost. As long as Andres "Dirty Bomb" Nocioni gets clocked in the nuts in round one, its a good season. Ive havnt seen such biting of the hand that feeds since Rod Strickland stole the tip jar from a humble Farragut North frank vender!

See, Gilbert, if you want the kind of adoring coverage Michael got, you have to do your part and pretend not to be an %%%%%%% in public.
So, the Wizards are getting destroyed in their Eastern Conference first-round series, on the way to a humiliating sweep by Cleveland, and Arenas calls a press conference before Game 3 in Washington to congratulate himself on getting his picture on the cover of a video game?

That's a franchise player?

"Everyone knows that this is the takeover year and I took over a lot of stuff," Arenas said. "I surprised myself. I want to finish the season by saying Agent Zero is on the cover of NBA Live 2008.""I have to pat myself on the back for that one. I have the copies of the game and I have been giving them to all my teammates. I let them know that next year, October 2, they have no choice but to look at me. Your kids, brothers, sisters, they have no choice but to look at me. I'm not only in the game, I'm on the cover of it."here was the first line of his blog after his injury: "Unfortunately, I've been catching glimpses of my team.""Do you realize how big this is?

"They can't tell me nothin'. Mannn. Ohhh. Lorddd.

"It makes my whole rehabbing that much better now. Because while rehabbing, all I'm thinking about is 'I'm on the cover of LIVE.' "
